Went out with NuBlu today for a 4-hour pre-sunrise hunt. Even though I got some greenies throughout the hunt, they were sporadic and mainly light dimes. I got the silver ring in the 1st part of the hunt. As I was returning just past the halfway point in deeper water, I saw a couple of dark objects in the water. I wave my coil over them and 1 was a stick, but the other object definitely made a loud noise. As I picked it up with my scoop and looked
. At first, I thought that maybe it was a toy, but then I saw “Glock” and knew it was the real deal
– polymer frame with metal upper. There were people around, so I stealthily put it in my pouch and continued hunting. I was in total shock for about an hour. After some time, the weight on my pouch was getting annoying so I stopped and put it in my water bladder backpack. The unmarked silver pendant came at some point later. (Tested “925” at home).
At home, I spoke with one of my law enforcement friends and took various pictures of the gun and sent them to him. He noted that the serial #’s had been removed, and as you can tell in the picture, the trigger was burned. I have given the gun a freshwater bath. Since the gun was probably involved in a crime, I have called Miami Beach Police and reported it. Officers took less than an hour from my call to pick up the gun. I got a case card and it is now “Found Property”. I am hoping I can get it back as it is a nicer weapon than my S&W 9mm. Unfortunately, I did not notice that I had inadvertently taken a crematory tag. That’ll go back out there the next time I go there to detect. I have now gone 15 hunts without gold, and it is my longest slump ever. But I can now check finding a firearm off my list!
