Needed a digging tool that could not be bent or broken. So I went to a wrecking yard and got the smallest leaf spring I could find. Cut it inhalf ground it to a sharp point ,added a handle and no more bent or broken tool. End of story. slider...

So how about a picture of this unbreakable beast?

That sure seems like it'd be a strong one. Did you taper the tip or just leave it rounded? I've heard of people using leaf springs to make knifes, but they soften the steel first, shape the knife and then temper it again.

Unbreakable Digging Tool

Trying to add pictures. We'll see if this works.

IMO, not much different than a Lesche, except longer, no hand guard, and needs to be sharper, oh and it wont break...

I'll stick to my Sampson T, and small hand digger...

Good job. That thing looks solid! How long? Hope nobody thinks it is a sword

The reason I had to make this is that I live in a small village in Panama Central America. Here we dont have large stores like in the states. I know I could order one but the shipping would be $40 to $60.00. So here we learn to get by with what we have. I know it is not fancy but it does the job. Good Luck in your hunting guys and gals slider... Ex Arizona horse rancher. Retired.

If you get out of detecting, you can become a pirate and "steal ur treasure mate " I think I saw that in Pirates of the Carribbean.

All kidding aside, nice job on it! Nothing wrong with making your own stuff, and quite rewarding! That curve should give you a good working shape to it.

heh i should get a picture of the knife my friend had made out of an old saw blade. thats pretty cool though, you should curl the top around so you can plant your palm or foot onto it really hard if you need to

I think you had a good idea. I use leaf springs to make digging tools as well very sturdy, I shape and refine them in my forge. I used to sell them but have not had any offers as of late. I make digging tools along with other tools / knives for people out of old lawn mower blades and other scrap they bring me sometimes for free if I like the idea.

But I understand after buying 4-5 different digging tools I began making them got tired of having to stop mid hunt because the handle breaks off or blade bends.
Sometimes a strange Necessity brings out some rough looking if not down right ridiculous inventions that work amazingly.

Below is one of the ugliest diggers I have ever made and a re-bar knife for someone to pick up this week. The Digger is made out of a old lawn mower blade but I still use it because it works :p has a hook on it to cut through roots and it moves hard pack easy if needed, there are so many rocks in the soil where I live in Pa. I would say it is unbreakable since I am around 260lb and I have had to kick it to remove some giant rocks from out of the ground to get to my finds, if it supports me jumping on it I think it is up for any other task

All I say is, whatever works for you to make your hunting more enjoyable. HH
