Still can't believe it! Pure Shock *Update*

Hi Kolby, I am new to the sight and just read this thread. All I can say is WOW!! I am big into the Civil War, and been getting more and more into WWII. To do all the follow up and everything you guys have done. There is a German POW camp not far from me called Camp Ellis. The small town it is near has a museum and annual festival. Looking to go see it this summer. My Aunts dad has written a book a few years ago about his experiences in WWII as a photographer. He flew 37 missions and was even shot down once. Amazing what these guys went threw. His name is Wayne W. White and the title of the book is "it wasn't my time".

I just found it and enjoyed it too. I had an uncle that I never knew, that from what I recall my dad saying, was a tail gunner on a B-24 or B-25. He was MIA in WWII in Europe, and as far as I know his body was never recovered. I think I remember an old newspaper clipping we had that said he was shot down over the Atlantic. My dad (RIP) always thought he was still alive, found some sweetheart, and just didn't want to come back. I guess I'll never know.

Hello OldCopper,

If you have any information on your Uncle I would be pleased to try and find out some more about him for you. Drop me a pm with whatever you have and I will see what I can do to help you.

Kind Regards,
Simon.

Simon - thank you so much for locating some information on my uncle that died in WWII three years before I was born! It's nice to have some information on him. I was incorrect on a few things based on my old memory. Based on what you found he was a Top Gunner on a B17 that was shot down on 28th July 1943, by Wilhelm "Jonny" Fest of Jagdgeschwader 11. Interesting that we even know who shot his plane down!

Hello Everyone! I am sorry I have not been on in a while. I have not been metal detecting since I got back stateside. However I do have some updates on the Diana-Mite and her crew. About 8 months ago a man in Montana bought a bunch of WWII film from an estate sell. Among the photos were never before seen pictures of the Diana-Mite. I took some of these photos and had them digitally enhanced and colorized. Also I bought a remembrance bracelet for the men of the Diana-Mite https://www.google.com/url?sa=f&rct...4ICICA&usg=AFQjCNGe5Vw2LS2ZDYqVOAhMzLZzHcCgzg . The owner of the company that makes the bracelet contacted me and wanted to meet me in person and have me tell her the story of how the Diana-Mite met her fate. I met up with her and her husband in Austin and not long after that they contacted Fox News in Houston and a reporter named Greg Groogan did a short piece on me and the work my buddies and I have done to track down all the families and bring the remains of the fallen Airman we found home. I am still looking for the last family of the Diana-Mite his name is Mathew J.K House of Alabama. I tracked his family down to Birmingham Alabama but I hit a dead end there. I have started a petition http://www.change.org/petitions/joi...c-recover-the-fallen-airman-of-the-diana-mite for JPAC (Joint POW/MIA accountability command) in hopes that JPAC will do the right thing and recover/identify the remains and bring them home where they belong. I hope you guys enjoy the video and the new pictures I have. If anyone has any questions just let me know http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/23939977/2013/11/11/veteran-discovers-lost-ww2-bomber-crew

Awesome man thanks for doing that. I had no idea JPAC was giving you so much trouble.
No one should be working at JPAC who doesn't regard every service member who perished defending this country as their own family member.
Anyone who can't do that should be shown the door.

Thanks for the update Kolby!

I'm glad to see your still on the case. I love those photos. WWII vintage aircraft are my favorite! The B-17G is one of my favorites of all time.

That was a time when our country didn't bow down to anyone, too bad it's not the case these days.....
