Still can't believe it! Pure Shock *Update*

Kolby I haven't looked at this thread in awhile.

Thanks for the updates .You done real good!
I hope your proud of your self because you should be.

Congrats to Kolby and all involved in doing the right thing. Anyone could have walked in there, taken what they found, and just left. You followed through on the right path, and for that you, and your group that was with you should be thanked. Neat story, great finds, and way to show that decency isn't dead.

If the US Government has not thanked you for your service to us it is a shame. You helped us keep our promise because "we leave no man behind".

I wonder why it has taken this long to recover our plane and hero's.

The sad thing is that if JPAC looks at the bones and decides they are to small to get a sample or if they decide the crash site is to big or the terain is to steep they will just scratch all of the work we have done and just call the whole thing a loss. If that happens I will probably lose my mind. The liason I talked to told me that it happens all of the time. Someone finds a crash site with remains and JPAC either goes out there and the host nation prevents them from removing the remains or JPAC decides they cant recover the plane for some reason.... I would never stop and I would smuggle the remains out if I had to....whatever needs to be done to get our boys home should be done....just my opinion of course...

You guys are very welcome, I am not doing anything special when you think of what all of the guys before us went thru. The least I can do is make sure the wheels keep rolling and the government does its job and brings these boys home.

Looks like JPAC is going to try and excavate the crash site! When I heard the news it was the best feeling. I was very worried that JPAC would not be able to work the site. There is still miles of red tape left to go thru but I am hoping it will work out.... I know that this is a long drawn out thread but It means so much to me.... Thanks everyone for all of the support!

It has to be hard dealing with the remains of people, wether dog tags or bones, my son uses his grandads as car keys, im not a fan of that because he lost them for months but they turned out to be down the side of the couch but could just as easily have been gone for good, i think respect should have had them on a necklace or something more perminant

Yeah everyone deals with that stuff in their own way, what someone does might not seem normal to you and I but it seems right to them...at least he is carrying them with him some kids these days have no clue of the sacrifices that people have made for us.

Great news Kolby. I think that because your excavation of the site had yielded significant human remains JPAC had to push this up the queue. Every single time that old soldier or airman is found is a great day. But it also highlights the many that are still out there waiting to be brought home once more.

Kind Regards,
Simon.

Smon how do you know this? I hope your right because I really want to get the ball rolling on this whole deal.

I'm going on what you have already said, and the fact that they already have a team on the ground in Germany. From what you have said it does indeed sound very promising.

Regards,
Simon.

That makes sense, I hope our optimism proves right and they bring these boys home. Maybe you should come down Simon if they decide to go ahead with it! =)

An absolutely amazing thread. I've been away from the forum for a while ... too busy. But I took the time to read this entire thread. I, too, am an avid fan of WWII aviation history (I have an entire library from my teen years).

Good work, awesome story. What an incredible testimony for our great hobby!

Hey ther Kolby, You guys have told a great story of an important part of history. Great Story and great finds. The men who died there were true hero's fighting for humanity. I would love to be on that continent with my old metal detector. Good Job!

Thanks! I am very anxious to see when they will start working the site....I am in close contact with 9 of the 19 family members and I would like to give them some new news

A family member of a crew member on "Our Baby" found me thru a WWII forum that I am a part of. He had these pictures of his uncle who was a gunner on "Our Baby" so I thought I would share them with you guys. Also the military news paper Stars and Stripes did a story about the crash. Pretty interesting and one of the proudest moments of my life.

Kolby,
Great to watch the video of you guys. Still think you did the right thing regarding the remains. It may transpire that the bones you found are those of a crew member already interred elsewhere, but for his family your actions speak way louder than words.

Well done!

Kind Regards,
Simon.
