Oh cmon! I enjoy your posts, and have learned quite a bit from them. I've had my share of disagreements on this forum, but I've come to realize that even the ones I've argued with, we all share common interests, and down the line I've even AGREED with members I've disagreed with in the past. I have had some on-line disagreements with some members and they with me. But none of those exchanges has affected my attitude about them. We have a very diverse body of members. They also constitute a huge body of knowledge about the science and art of metal detecting from which every one benefits. When someone criticizes any of your posts or comments then take it a just constructive criticism even if it goes over the line a little bit.
When they become heated exchanges that are way over the line the admins jump in and solve the problem. That does not happen often but it does happen. Not too long ago when a member literally cursed out a member on line, the admins banned him from this forum as he should have been banned.

FMDF is vibrant, engaging, entertaining, and informative. I'm glad we often engage in debates and question each other. That's how we get to the truth of the matter and learn from our mistakes. If some perceive questioning or disagreeing with them as a personal attack, then they should probably get their ego in check, or go back to their safe place.
Best way to leave a forum is simply fade away, there are forums I haven't posted at for years without saying a word [including tnet, a den of spiteful nannys] Bottom line, you need only satisfy yourself, you don't need the approval/endorsement of others, and you don't need to burn bridges, you may have a change of heart a year or 2 down the road.

J/K. You are absolutely 100% right. To generate a debate is a good thing. Case in point, I have been a skilled tradesman most of my life and I have learned a ton of things in that time. However, there is still a lot I could learn. And I'll tell ya, this forum has taught me a lot of things that have made things better for me. If you have a thin skin and can't take criticism, or advice, then goodbye and have a good day.

I've been a computer technician for around 25 years and own a business in the computer industry. I still learn new things, and occasionally that new thing is from a newbie lol.
I not only want my employees to question methods and each other, I encourage it. That leads to a more productive and enjoyable work environment.
Regarding the questioning and disagreeing...well, it reminds of the Vulcan teen that couldn't control his emotions. He very reluctantly visits a Vulcan master to see if the master will teach him how to control his emotions. The young Vulcan says to the master, "I will question everything you say". The Vulcan master replies with, "You would not be a worthy pupil otherwise".

"Nerdy metal detecting guy sues another nerdy metal detecting guy due to words. A fight broke out in front of the courthouse with each trying to lance each other with their metal detectors".

AC, as an old power lineman I spent a lot of hours working in Michigan's Upper Peninsula which was rich in Finlander influence. In that time, if there was one thing I learned, it was Finlanders don't quit. Stay here and let us learn from you.

Hang around. Take a break, cool of and come back when you're up to it. It really is a great place. As long as we all take out Geritol, drink or prune juice and keep our meds in us we all get along well enough. If you get frustrated, go swing the detector and find something to make us all eat our hearts out.
