New Minelab Manticore

Uhhh... Huh?

The only people and the only place that $2k price has been "dangled" is here in this thread by a couple guys without a clue. There IS no "discussion" for Minelab to take part in. Official pricing has been out for a long time now.

But now the $2k, mentioned nowhere else in the world but on this thread, just today, is a full blown rumor, and Minelab is craftily letting the rumor run? OMG...:lol::laughing::lol:

I'm an idiot for taking part in this conversation...

And it always starts with the price. Because they can't afford it to begin with. But secretively , deep down in their soul , they wish they could have it.

Wrong. I make a good living and can easily afford a 2k detector. You just don't get the basic premise of treasure hunting. The idea isn't to flush two grand to find a few more Mercs. The idea is to find more treasure than you spent finding that treasure. Seems stupid to spend two grand to find a few more silver coins worth jack squat.

You're like those Oak Island fools, who have spent millions to find a fantasy treasure that MIGHT be worth a million, if they're really lucky. Doesn't make sense to me...

Here's the description for this latest detector of the month:

"With a revolutionary, new two-dimensional identification map system, you can target the finds you want and reject the trash and iron you don't want to go through the trouble of digging. With depth, target type, and target size information given through this revolutionary graphic display packed into this metal detector, you have the most knowledge about what's under your feet before a shovel even touches the surface."

Wow, what a crock! I wonder how many gold rings people will miss because they really believe this nonsense? Sorry, but there never will be a metal detector that will tell you if it's a pull tab or a gold ring. As they say, there's a sucker born every minute...

What I see in the Manti so far, is a Nox without the build quality issues, and a better display.

There's a chance I might eat my words on this, but I seriously doubt that the Manti is going to detect and ID any better than the Nox, or other similar detectors already on the market..that are a fraction of the price.

Wow, what a crock!

The lower line seems to be a ferrous indicator, and the upper line is a nonferrous indicator.

Basically, it's just a ferrous/nonferrous meter that I had on my first Radio Shack Micronta detector.

Well folks, you heard it here first. Detector technology has peaked with the AT Pro. Don’t be tempted by new detectors! You never need to upgrade again! Just invest that money into 1000 mercury dimes!

Upgrade all you want, but you can't buy your way to better finds. Skill, location and research will always trump the guy who thinks he can buy his way to a shortcut for finding the good stuff.

The problem here is that a lot of the guys hyping these new detectors are actually dealers trying to dupe people into buying the latest detector of the month. That's what annoys me.

Never said that, but you're right, you'd be smarter to buy the 1,000 silver dimes than flush two grand on a detector that MIGHT find you a few coins that cheaper detectors MIGHT miss.

If you look at my response here to Tom's post , you will know where I stand. I think it might be about 25% overall better than the Nox. Yeah , it ain't cheap. But with a Vet discount I'm looking at about $1250. Not bad in my book. If I was a dirt hunter , no way would I buy one. I definitely don't like all this hype nonsense and fake release dates. I called it 3 months ago , this won't come out until next year. What I do find shocking is I haven't seen any testing in mineralized salt beaches. I hope nobody around here buys any of these damn things.

i just d/l an app, take cup holder phone holder out of my subaru, zip tie it to a stick and go for it:laughing:

Who said anything about "buying their way to better finds"?? That's NOT the only reason people buy or upgrade detectors. It can be for a number of reasons including ergonomics, lighter weight, more features, better cherry picking abilities or just personal preference. Here's a newsflash for you: Not all of us are in this hobby for the sole purpose of making a profit. Some of us just enjoy detecting in general and couldn't care less about the monetary value of what we dig. BUT, if you look closely, I think you'll see that most of us who detect for the pure pleasure of detecting are doing just fine in the finds department.

As for your comment about "a lot of guys hyping detectors being dealers", yeah... I saw where you accused a long time TRUSTED and RESPECTED member (Kevin aka IDXmonster) of being a dealer/shill just because he had something positive to say about his experience with his new detector. I think maybe some of you guys are just a little bit paranoid. Its gotten to the point that NOBODY can say anything positive about a new detector without backlash from the naysayers.

This new Minelab hasn't even hit the market yet and it's already been judged by folks who haven't even seen one in person. If you think it's too expensive, don't buy one! Simple! There are other options in almost every price range!

You never answered my question. Why aren't you swinging a $100 Bounty Hunter instead of that expensive (by comparison) AT Pro? By your own logic, you could've saved yourself a few hundred dollars to invest into silver dimes!

The only complaints about the Nox that I've heard are the weak coil "ears", which I bought the reinforcement tabs for, and the rods working loose after a while, which I replaced with some Orange-Yellow Steve's Detector Rods. I have no first hand knowledge of how waterproof or not it is. I likely won't find out, because I don't swim or even wade. For the price of a Nox 800, I got the 600, the rods, the ears, and a 6" coil, all of which are more of a necessity than being able to search for gold.

To tell you the truth, all major brands have good features, and pretty much all of them have a weakness here and there. If you buy brands like Cheep-Li-Maid or Sinojunk, that's on you, as you were likely warned.

Just saw this thread. I see alot of referencing a 2,000 dollar pricetag. Msrp is 1599 and with a veteran's discount its 1359 which is a far cry from 2,000 bucks. I did read on another forum that they were already out in Germany and being scalped for2,000 +. Maybe thats where the rumor started.
I don't think anyone can argue Minelab makes great rigs so I have no reason not to believe that the Manticore will be the best in class that Minelab has to offer. That said I have one preordered.
This is the only area in my life where I embrace technology. And am looking forward to see what they have come up with. As far as the price, well you can't take it with you and in year from now you won't miss the money. Me, I'm worth it.
I also read somewhere that one hold up on U.S. shipments had to do with FCC approval of the headphone's frequency but that has been handled. So hopefully the Dec. ship date is still accurate. Can't wait to see it in action. Good luck to all. Mark

Well said randy. My old 1995 Toyota truck got me from point A to point B just fine, but that didn't stop me from buying a new Sierra.

Learning a new machine is half the fun for me. I don't need the new Manticore, but I'll be getting one!

Totally agree. That’s part of the fun. I’ve watched technology improve through the years and I always wanted to keep up with it. The digital age greatly improved machines and made them lighter and perform better. Especially good for us old people:thumbsup:

Nothing wrong with chasing technology while you can. I did for many years but now retired I just can't afford it. I do miss the chase.

I understand, and don't necessarily disagree with, your stance on the new tech vs. old tech issue. However, those fools from Oak Island, whether there's treasure or not, have spent millions looking for it because they've managed to make millions AND millions more making the number one television series on TV over the past ten years. I'm not arguing whether it's a good show or not, just stating that I'd love to be so foolish:D

Now, back to our regularly scheduled argument:laughing:
