New Minelab Manticore

Well said randy. My old 1995 Toyota truck got me from point A to point B just fine, but that didn't stop me from buying a new Sierra.

Learning a new machine is half the fun for me. I don't need the new Manticore, but I'll be getting one!

A Deus II and a Manticore? You'll have two of the best detectors ever made. ;)

For myself, I'm happy that ML hasn't put units in the hands of youtube guys to spam the world with hype before release. They'll be plenty of that when it gets into the hands of the masses.

And I don't really agree with showing nothing of value. The engineers have been out there doing demos, letting people try them, answering questions etc. There may not be a LOT of info out there, but at least it's accurate info, coming straight from the horses mouth. Not the marketing people or some yahoo with a youtube channel, but the engineers themselves.

To me, this is a breath of fresh air compared to the D2 drama-hype-spam machine.

I guess $1600 is an expensive VLF (but nothing compared to a PI machine). Metal detecting with a VLF is a very inexpensive hobby though. There aren't many other hobbies you can spend as many enjoyable hours using top of the line equipment for so little cash outlay.

And I don't think anyone is actually spending the $1600 yet. I won't pay for it until it actually ships to me.

As I've stated before, you can't buy your way into this hobby. You find the good stuff with research and paying your dues. Remember, if it ain't there in the first place, no two grand detector on earth will stop you from coming up empty.

I guess I'm just a 1995 Toyota truck kind of guy. As for giving you a better experiece, I doubt it. When I strike out with my AT Pro, I don't sweat it and would never blame the machine for my failure that day. But if I spent two grand on a detector and struck out, I'd be tempted to break it in half and curse the day I flushed that much money when a $300 detector would have given me the same results! Lol!

Pre-orders have been stated by posters.

How can you go from a Toyota to a sierra?Sierra??

I don't have one on pre-order, but will see how performance is mid 2023, and likely purchase one.

I've probably owned almost every flagship detector released in the past couple of decades. I just enjoy learning and using new machines.

I've paid my dues. I agree that location is the biggest factor when it comes to making good finds. No doubt about it. BUT, what some don't seem to understand is that a few of us just enjoy using new/different equipment. Its not just the finds, its the whole experience. Randy explained it perfectly. Its sort of like telling a fisherman that he's wasting his money on that fancy new bass boat and all those reals. He could accomplish the same thing with an old Zebco and a cheap Jon boat. While that may be true, those fancy reals and the shiny new bass boat are a big part of what makes him enjoy the experience.

I spend a LOT of time metal detecting. Its the best hobby in the world and a huge part of my life. So in the grand scheme of things, spending 1500 bucks on something that I enjoy so much just isn't that big of a deal to me.

Hey! I like my Sierra!

Yes, I stated so myself, in this thread. I've got a pre-order in, to make sure I get one of the first batch to arrive. I'm not going to pay until Gerry actually has it and ships it to me though.

I wouldn't do business with a dealer that expects me to pay upfront for something he doesn't even know when he's going to see.

That would be like, "hey, lend me $1600, zero interest, don't know when I'll pay you back".

Maybe some people are doing that? I'd run not walk away from a dealer like that though.

To each his own, I guess. Sounds to me like you're trying to impress people with your new toys. I usually detect by myself and avoid people like the plague while detecting, so no need for me to go that route. I was the same way when I was into bass fishng. Used to fish small, out of the way ponds with a Scanoe and a $20 spinning reel. Got the job done, as the 4 trophy bass on my wall confirm!

I always got a few chuckles when I had an Ace 250, but it got the job done and made the 1k detector guys look silly most of the time. I guess I'm just a practical guy who isn't trying to impress anyone in this world...

I couldn't care less about "impressing people with my new toys". Some of us just enjoy the improvements offered by the latest detectors. Simple as that.

Using your logic, why bother purchasing an expensive AT Pro when you could just get yourself a $100 Bounty Hunter?

I don't have a problem with those who choose to use older or cheaper detectors. BUT, you can't say "to each his own" while in the same breath tossing out an obvious insult towards anyone who likes to buy newer more expensive machines.

When one starts to trash anything that's rather expensive , their defense mechanism kicks in. They then start nit-picking everything about it. And it always starts with the price. Because they can't afford it to begin with. But secretively , deep down in their soul , they wish they could have it.

You know, this put some things in perspective. See, I added a DeusII after using the AT Max for several years. And now that I've added an extra coil and a XP pinpointer, I sit there and question why I've dropped $2000 on this setup.

But you kinda answered my question. There are other detectors I could have gotten for much less that perform 'comparably.' Or I could have spent $0 and just kept using the AT Max (Which I still use as a second machine).

I bought it for the experience. Very specifically, I paid for the enjoyment of swinging a VERY lightweight machine for hours and hours. (Yes, I got a very good machine. . . but that weight was a HUGE selling point for me).

That's all. Do what makes you happy!

Yeah, I'm still using the E-Trac Terry (Detector) sold me used forever ago, which has found over 1400 silvers, including a reasonable amount this year, at least IMHO (best year for me since 2013, and I don't get out like I did in the old days).

Its a bit beat up now, and the headphone jack is failing, and when it does who knows what I'll do, but I agree location trumps machine. An hour doing research beats an hour arguing on the forum which machine is better.

That said, tell a fisherman or a hunter you could buy 1000 fish or 1000 packs of meat for the cost of their gear, their boat, their truck. They will look at you like you have 3 heads, and rightly so.

Life is about experience. The cold math says all of this we that do is irrational (buying the next round of gear that will find 10 more mercs or catch 10 more fish) , but I will counter with -- "lets keep the experience in life".

I'll be first in line. And this from a legitimate practicing economist who studies this sort of stuff. I'm not saying buy the next machine just to find 10 more mercs; buy the next machine, or line of fishing gear, if it improves your experience.

I think we tend to forget the experiential aspect of life sometimes, and I think we shouldn't.

JMHO, as always

Whatever makes you happy. That is the best part. I have never swung a detector I enjoyed as much as the Deus I. The Garrett AT Pro and I clicked very well. I am very satisfied with my Nokta Simplex+. It makes me happy.

Minelab is "smartly" dangling the idea of a new cost to $2k. You don't see ML in any discussion to repute the 2K price. It pays for them to let the rumors run. I still want to see actual lectors swinging these things, not just the Minelab engineers.

We won't know here in the consumer stage, before simple detector people have one in hand. Until then, we are puppets.

Uhhh... Huh?

The only people and the only place that $2k price has been "dangled" is here in this thread by a couple guys without a clue. There IS no "discussion" for Minelab to take part in. Official pricing has been out for a long time now.

But now the $2k, mentioned nowhere else in the world but on this thread, just today, is a full blown rumor, and Minelab is craftily letting the rumor run? OMG...:lol::laughing::lol:

I'm an idiot for taking part in this conversation...
