Interesting Discovery

I never knew they rejected coins prior to 64 that had no defect. As a matter of fact I have read a few threads on this forum of people who were CRH'ing by buying the bags of coins from the person who maintains the coinstar machine. They said they found silver in them.

It does it by weight just like those sorters that separate zinc pennies from copper ones.If they didn't all the canadian coins would work because they use the same size we do.And people would be hammering out lead quarters from buckshot.Just like you can't copy a dollar and feed it through a bill changer:shock:

Check this out, going to bank with my brother and in the parking lot going into the bldg, I start yelling "Coinstar" people probably thought that I was a nut - he gets in first and checks the machine and it contains 9 cents, one nickel and 4 pennies. Unbelievable, he didn't believe me and we were laughing, one penny was beat up but the other three were fine and from the 1980's-90's.

I guess the machines do leave money and people fail to check the return slot, funny

I had a paper machine that always payed off. A friend would give me a hard time for checking it all the time.

One day he went early and glued a quarter in the slot ,I had to get some tools to get it out.

BINGO!

These machines (found in America) are designed and calibrated for "current U.S. currency". Silver American coins from pre-1965 have a different density than the clad stuff found in our daily pockets. A common vending machine might accept silver coins, but machines such as these "Coinstar" units sure like to kick out the silver! :coolman:

It's bad enough people get like that 20% fee off the top, but they may be losing money of real value too.

Glad to see more people are looking at what these machines are rejecting.

Lots of us have gotten silver out of these reject bins, just search "coinstar" and you will see.
Not really a secret at all.

Embarrassing, not for me.
You should see me dive into one of those add a penny take a penny holders at cash registers, too

lol Awesome!!!! I'm always eyeing those things too. The cashiers probably think I'm nuts.
