A few years back, change collecting machines began to show up all over the place. These are the machines where people dump their coins in and get cash back minus some handing fee. Anyway, these machines would reject anything it detected as not being current U.S. currency. So, they rejected Canadian money, Euro’s and pre-1965 silver coins. During this time, I found some good usable money that got away from people. If any of you get a chance, check out what gets rejected in these machines. It’s not always paperclips and junction box slugs in the bin.

I always check the Coin Star machine at our local supermarket. Haven't found anything yet.

Huh? Trailduster, you need to realize that coinstar hunting is pretty much public knowledge in the metal detecting hobby. The cat was let out if that bag a while ago

There have been numerous posts on here of people scoring (and a couple rather nicely) at the coin cash machines. I don't think it is much of a secret anymore. It is a good habbit to check for free money. Like much of life andin md'ing. A little luck and good timing. Be the first to "get your coil over it"

I would be embarrassed to check coin star machines like that , and if I was to see someone I would mistakenly hand him some change thinking he homeless .

Lots of us have gotten silver out of these reject bins, just search "coinstar" and you will see.
Not really a secret at all.

There are always a lot in those you can see are not zincs... I just want to dump them in my hand and give them the once over.

Never had a Coinstar find to date.

I found 280 silver washingtons a girl was trying to dump in a coinstar. She couldn't get them to go in so I gave her the cash for them. The thread is closed now but just look in the eye popping section. Also found four silver rosie's so far in coinstar reject trays. I look into every single one I pass or have my kids look in them. Coinstar rejects are common knowledge and have been for awhile.

My kids and I always check the coinstar. So far I found a silver Kennedy half and a 1943 steel penny.

As a matter of fact, I have never seen anybody post here with your kind of attitude.

I had a feeling most of you guys alreay knew about this. CoinStar machines seem to be the most popular out my why, but my bank has machines that do this for free. I'll have to see what they are rejecting.

Anyway, I found it interesting that good uasable money got kicked out of these machines. The people making the drop offs didn't even bother to look at what got tossed. Yeah, you'll see your share of bus tokens and phoney currency, but getting the silver surprise was a treat.

Went early today and got another batch of coins.Still no silver.Will add the coins to my existing thread when it isn't overcast outside.Found 4 wheats,several foreign coins and tokens.About 8 Canadian quarters i spend at the store when given the chance I'll even dig in the waste basket.But forgot this time.Next time i'm going late to check.We dig pulltabs and even condom wrappers.Don't worry about leaning down to check a coinstar

I got my first Coinstar silver the other day. A '64 Rosie.

I think I found a V nickel before, but I didn't take it.... It was the size of a nickel but completely blank. It wasn't until much later that I realized how dull V nickels can easily get. Oh well....

Would you be happy if 30 people with MD's were at your favorite park tomarrow? (and don't take the high road on that question just for the sake of saving face in a public discussion, we all would be a bit miffed if our actions lessened our gains in this hobby.)

who bothers to check the reject bin?? Everyone does that! HA HA KT made his first find at his Local Kroger store the other day when He came across 7 pennies set out on top of the machine...they were all stuck together with old dried out bubble gum! someone had just set them out cause they would not go in the slots of the machine! HA HA HA
