So this morning I went back to a small city park where I found a colonial shoe buckle last weekend. I wasn't finding much in the other areas of the park so I went back to the little field where I found the shoe buckle and I pulled up 1/2 of a Spainish Real. I knew it was a Real as soon as I saw it but I wasn't sure what type until I did some research.

I believe what I have is a 1736 Philip V Spainish 2 Real, all of the markings are matching up perfectly. I wish I had the other half but I'll take a half of one any day....

I never dreamed I would ever find one but here it is. I also found a button which I haven't identified yet, I need to do some research on that.

I just bought a NEL 5 x 9 sharpshooter coil for my T2se to help me sort through trashy sites like this and it's paying off in a big way.....

I think I have a new honey hole.....:D

Very nice! It's amazing how they just cut a coin into pieces. That's definitely on my bucket list but I doubt I'll find one here in Southeast Texas.

Cliff

Nice find. I like finding those.

A 4 bit piece I guess you woulda call it. I have found 2 bit and one bit pieces.

Reading about the pieces of eight is interesting.
What a way to make change.

Here's the Real I matched it too. I found a close match to the button on Ebay but still don't know what kind of garment it came off of....it's a two piece brass button.

Thank you Cliff. I wish they didn't cut them up like that but I've seen many people pulling them out of the ground in half and quarter pieces....it's just what they did to make change I guess.

It is definitely interesting. I've never done any research on Reales because I never thought I'd find one so I'm just learning more about them now.

sheesk, the east coast guys merely have to go to "small city parks" and dig up reales. Sick sick sick.

Nothing but dumb luck and a little help from the city. They put a park right in the middle of an historic colonial settlement 2 miles from my house, lol. What a wonderful gift they gave me. :D
I don't feel so bad about paying the ridiculously high taxes now.

Half of a 2 reales pistareen. Finding half of one is much harder than finding a quarter of one. I found two cobs and a silver Pomander in a schoolyard. One of the best sites ever for me

This site has produced some great finds so far. I'm still hoping to pull a large cent out of there but haven't found any old copper yet.

Score! Still looking for a Pistareen/cob. Also a fractional colonial silver. Congrats!

Thank you cellrdwellr and good luck.

That is a very special dig. Cut Colonial Silver. Congrats on a amazing recovery. Trapper

Thanks Trapper. I spent a lot of time learning the History of this area so these finds are special to me.

I actually spend more time researching sites than I do detecting them but the homework pays off and you learn a little history along the way.
