When using a probe, how do you tell buttons, coins, etc.... from rocks?
You can to a tiny amount with practice. You learn the "feel and sound" of metal vs glass vs rock. But if you have rocky, gravel filled soil then these probes are useless because all you will hit are rocks.
They suck for rings too. I know a number of times I probed tight circles and never touched anything solid. Put the probe back in the center and dug my plug only to find my probe sticking through the middle of a ring. On-edge coins are a bugger to probe for too.
