This was found near an old schoolhouse 1884 - 1931 in Northern Virginia
Maybe it’s part of a wood stove?
It’s about 7” long.

Probably on the right track. Were you near a house site?

It was about 50’ behind the old schoolhouse. There is a modern house probably built in the 1970s about 150’ away but other than that it is pretty isolated.

Ditto on the desk thought. I found a couple of those side pieces near an old school, one plain and one ornate.

wood stove was going to be my guess as I found a piece similar last weekend in a cornfield hunt.
