Reading all of these posts reminds me of Christmas morning. There are those that like to tear open lots of presents looking for that special one they wanted.(PI)
Then there are those that like to open their one present and go eat breakfast.(VLF)

Everyone has a different way to celebrate holidays or detecting time. In the end, both are happy.

I like the Grape Koolaid. It cools me down after a long day of finding the gold all the multi-freq guys walk over. This is a matter of opinion and hunting styles - there are no hard facts or rules.

Craig likes cherry picking and does not mind losing the deeper gold when he uses his Minelab multi-freq. When he goes in the water he uses his Dual Field PI. I just prefer to use my Sand Shark on the wet sand AND in the water because I want the gold, and I am accustomed to digging it all as an All Metal, nuggetshooting gold prospector (Minelab GPX 4000 and 5000) anyway.

I know Craig thinks beach detecting is hard, but to me, it is the easiest form of metal detecting there is compared to nuggetshooting or dirt detecting. Scooping targets on ANY beach (whether rocky or shell filled) is still 100-times easier than picking your way through hardpack and caliche. So, please, BUY a muti-freq, and leave the gold masked by bobbypins for me to find.

Maybe you should invest in a pickaxe... or a shovel. :D

In the winter some of my beaches are just grape sized pebbles with sand acting as grout between them. You can get the scoop about an inch in with a stomp, you end up having to dig layer by layer, inch by inch. Give me clay dirt and a pickaxe anyday over that...

I found a box of sewing needles strewn on the beach i hunt. As well as a whole box of those car dealer cheap key rings.Appears some guys around here dump stuff to give others with non screen machines or disc a hard time. Appears beach hunting isn't easy when we try to see your beach finds. Some of them pics are from years ago!

Craig doesn't cherry pick... I use a discriminating machine to my advantage... the beaches I hunt with the amount of iron in them would be a huge waste of time to a PI user...You talk like you know what the GT can do... let me tell you I am not missing very much gold... the GT is one deep VLF machine. You post words... I post finds.

Now that you mention it, I have seen some fantastic finds by you and your GT, the other guy......not so much.

Sounds like "Grape Kool-Aid" vs. "Cherry Kool-Aid" to me. :sissyfight: Just sayin'

Yes Craig, I do know what the Sovereign can - and can't do. Why do you and the "Core Four" always try and redirect the conversation when it stops going your way? I post facts, you post insults. You are the moderator of your dreams - not mine. I post finds when - and if I want to, not because I "need" to. Your insecurity is not my responsibility

I still want to know who the Core Four are?

As for the OP. Did you get the Sovereign yet? It's a great machine in discriminate or in all metal/ pinpoint. I have my Sovereign since around 95 and it still works great. In all metal it will go deeper than you think once you learn it.

I think the OPer make the correct choice in purchasing a VLF machine... he lives inland and can take advantage of the freshwater lakes around his area... as to the conversation not going my way? Its not about me or you Terry its about giving the best advice for a new member... its too bad you can't see that.

Good choice if you went VLF. It may cost you more initially, but the advantage of being able to hunt any area... dry/wet/ or in the water and CHERRY PICK as Terry said i believe will pay off quicker for you just starting off and you wont be quite as frustrating. After the machine pays for its self.... and it will, if you are still curious about the PI.... there ya go.

I remember all of your bobbypins you use to post  Remember when you use to tell us you were finding them at 18 inches.

You have sold a lot of Sand Sharks Terry, but I see so many that have turned their SS into "Closet Queens" because they did not have time to dig all of the trash on the beaches where they hunt. Over the years I have seen more posts of "I drank the Kool-Aid" but I have never seen a post where someone was sorry they bought a VLF and wish they had bought a Sand Shark.

Starting to get the picture Hotrod?

The "Core Four" spend more time making personal attacks than helping people here on the forum. You can go back through this very thread and see who has spent most of it in attack mode. It is always the same members.

The attacks on my posts started when I had the audacity to say beach hunting was the easiest form of detecting on the planet, and that at $600.00, the Tesoro Sand Shark was as good or better than the Whites Dual Field. Oh my, Craig went ballistic! I got into huge arguments over pulse delay timings (calling them a “red herring” argument when it comes to the difference between 15us –vs- 20us).

They got tired of not gaining enough followers, and even more frustrated when folks started posting that they had bought the Sand Shark, found it easy to use and learn, and were finding the goods with it. Craig and his boys left the PI argument behind and started their multi-freq threads, telling folks that they would be “wasting too much time digging iron” to find gold, or not cover enough beach to find the good stuff with an 8" coil. Of course this sounds logical to a newbie, but as they say, even communism looks good on paper.

I continue to challenge blowhards and know-it-alls that preach it takes “years” to learn how to detect or read a beach, rather than simply admitting anyone can find the goods if they just put the time in on their headphones, and have a good location to hunt. I have trained 12-year-old children in less than an hour to be successful beach and dirt hunters, and that really hurts some people’s egos. Metal detecting is NOT rocket science, it's a hobby.

In the 35+ years I have been detecting and instructing, I have run into a lot of blowhards that think they are better than the next guy, or have better equipment or some secret knowledge that sets them apart. They are the first to tell you that you’re doing it all wrong, or you don’t need this or do need that. People KNOW who these folks are – it’s self evident.

I’ll continue to give my advice, the goons will continue to attack me personally, and the sun will still come up tomorrow. ;)
