30 Day Challenge (living off metal detecting finds only)

I think I could feed myself easily enough...would have a hard time paying the rent though:lol:

6 hours yesterday got me about $17.

Ok just updated last nights hunt http://metaldetectingchallenge.blogspot.com/

$53.05 in modern currency. Started off slow, but managed to pick things up towards the end. Also picked up a $100 reward this morning for finding a guys ring :) You can read all about it on the blog. Ok, time for me to get more sleep zzzzzz.... can't wait for night 3!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement! I need it :)

Predicimal out..

That $100 reward will really boost your profit and confidence. Can't wait to hear your day 3 results.

Good luck. We're all rooting for you.

RD

Without $1 and $2 coins there would be no way I could survive. Can't wait for the $5 coins to come out...

hehe, and I am sure I will lose weight too! Lots of calories being burned swinging and digging!

Last nights hunt did not go so well, $33.75 in finds. Only lasted about 5 hours before the Flu got the better of me. But dont worry, I won't let this stop me... the challenge must continue :)

I just updated the blog http://metaldetectingchallenge.blogspot.com/

Looks like fun but too bad you are under the weather.

As a small critical point I dont think you should count the ring reward money.

Instead you should weigh the ring and award yourself with the scrap value.

( doing the same for all future gold, silver and platinum )

For example if the ring you found was 6 grams 14 K you would get 131 Aussie $$ !

This is not a bad idea...I do help people recover their lost jewellery on the side...and since it is revenue generated from the metal detector I include it.

Next week I am going to change tactics, instead of hunting for coins, I am going to see how I go the week searching for rings. I will use your scrap value method as a way of counting revenue :)

This will be fun to watch. You are definately in a good place for beach hunting. *bookmarks the blog*

I have never sold anything for scrap but I am sure it has its own cost as well.

Probably more like scrap value minus 10% ( or higher ? ) which would give the hypothetical $131 in base scrap value a commission adjusted $118 value.

even if accounting for that he would still be ahead $18 the way i see it, as long as your making money there is not bad way to do it.

good luck on this and i will follow it to the end. if i could i would love to do this.

Hey Pre - Awseome idea, as all have agreed.

On a side note - what do you with the dog when detecting? I have two labs and always think about taking one with, but fear the distraction, etc - anyone else bring the dog when going?

Good luck!
