30 Day Challenge (living off metal detecting finds only)

Well I was pulling about $300 every 4-5 days just in clad on land with my DFX a few years ago. I would emagin you should have no problem but I dont think you'll have much left over after the end of the month.

I spent about six hours a day at it. Good luck...

Keep up the good work, I enjoyed seeing the video, it was cool to see how detecting underwater looks and sounds. The blog is great also, I look forward to seeing the end results!

Wow! Jamie, If you are not working go back to it. :)

That is hard to believe........even at 6 hours a day. If you were working then, when did you find the time?

Thanks to Predecimal

In OCMD on A Great day in the dry sand during the summer peak {if the weather is good} you can pull over 200 coins a day, figure this adds up to about 30 or more dollars a day. 30 x 5 days = $150 plus. Not saying 300 dollars in 5 days would be possible but that's alot of scooping. Thats why I hunt the wet sand & surf now..One scoop can be a big payday.

Thanks to Predecimal for taking us along on your rides..It would be tuff in the States to live off of this great hobby but you have proven with hard work and determination it can be done in the land down under...Thanks for Sharing...Joe

I agree with you Joe(OBN) on a GOOD DAY if no one else detect it on that beach.....Jamie is talking about LAND finds $300 every 4-5 days thats $1800 in 30 days!!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: And Bobbie is right! I say no more!

PS. Sorry Predecimal didn't mean to take over your thread good luck!

Yes in OCMD where it is hotel after hotel you can find that kind of coin and make a living at it. But we do not have hotels on our beaches, or areas where that kind of money can be found. On a average beach day we can find $5 or $6 between the two of us.

Predecimal, I too enjoyed your sharing with us and you are fortunate to be able to hunt in areas that can really pay off big time. Keep posting, I am enjoying the trip.

Hey guys, umm I can't really argue with jchams claim. Thats around $75 a day. Would be difficult since the largest US denomination coin is a quarter?? I realise their are dollar and half dollar coins, but these are rarely circulated in the US?

Last nights hunt prooved to be fruitful...well not fruitful in the way Aquaman pulls gold out of the sea, but a decent hunt for me :) Summary- 1 x 9CT 5 Gram Wedding Ring, One junker Ring, 50 grams of silver jewellery, and $31.30 in currency. Only one night to go until I wrap up this challenge. I hope you have all enjoyed my adventure... http://metaldetectingchallenge.blogspot.com/

Minimum 50 quarters per hour. I hunted 5 hours today, dug 7 quarters, 40 other coins, and a locket/medallion. First time I have hunted in a year. 300 hundred bucks every 4-5 days for 6 hours isnt bad.......Wink

Brad,
I've been very much enjoying your sharing with us in this adventure.
I decided to tally up your total cash worth of finds so far ... $2037.37, if I added correctly. Not too shabby at all.

Well done and keep up the great work.

Thanks Robin, I ended the challenge with $2120.87. I only just scraped by covering my living expenses for the month. Without the additional search and reward fees I would have never been able to survive. My full respect goes to the old couple who have been doing this as a full time living for 8 years.

Thanks for the incredible story. What an inspiration!!! I wish this were possible. Just to be outside everyday doing something you enjoyed. Out of curiousity, after completing the challenge, how long was it before you went out metal detecting again?

Happy Hunting,

CTKidd

it's almost like that TV show....

where a guy does something for 30 days. It's been interesting to see some of those shows. You know I just thought that if you're trying to live FINDING TREASURE then that could also include checking for aluminum cans in the trash cans at beaches and parks. I would think that there would be more at the hot beaches.
