As I said it really depends on conditions, where and what you hunt as to which detector I would prefer. Without a doubt the Minelab FBS's such as the E-Trac nad CTX are the kings of silver in most cases. Hey there is a good reason they are so popular. The strong point of those FBS's is the unique tonal ability that makes finding that deep silver, and to a lesser degree, copper coins easy. The key word being easy.
Heck the F75 LTD could hit those same deep coins but it just wasn't as easy as the E-Trac to know they were under the coil. Experience can lessen that degree of advantage, but the FBS's make easy and hence the popularity. I see these detectors as more specialized machines. They do one thing very very well but kind of lack in the other departments. For example, the E-Trac makes a lousy tot lot machine. The CTX is slightly better but still lacks the low conductor sensitivity. If you plan to hunt only old coins in old parks and such, and you have a lot of places to hunt, then the E-Trac/CTX will be a great choice and hard to beat.
For me I had 2 areas where the E-Trac/CTX was my choice. Our 130 year old city park and another old park about 15 miles away. My problem is after 5 years with the E-Trac and 2 with the CTX those spots have pretty much been worked over. Hours and hours now MIGHT net you a wheat or the rare piece of silver. As far as my other hunting the FBS's really kind of suck. They don't do tot lots and they don't like freshly plowed fields for relics. Both place where the Deus excels. I have found no better tot lot machine and the Deus rocks for relic hunting.
I still will own a E-Trac/CTX because I'm bound to run across another site where that special skill is wanted, but right now I'm lovin my Deus. Not to mention there is nothing as sweet to swing as the Deus. Light as a feather.
