That last ring that turned out to be stainless steel has me doubting everything I see now LOL. Another silver looking ring found, but I don't have a way to check silver. I think I see a laser engraving inside that looks to me like may be 925. What do you think? It has those same streaks the stainless steel one had. It weights 5.7gms whereas the other was 4.7grams. The other was fatter but thinner.

From what limited info can be gleaned from that pic, does not look like silver to me. Those are not brush lines [which run parallel with the ring contour], looks more like corrosion leaching from the top that might wipe off. Doesn't appear to have much luster, and corrosion visible on top which, again, might be surface gunk. Does appear to be .925, I've never found a laser etched hallmark, if true must be a fairly recent practice.
I wouldn't sweat the silver as its so low in value, nice to know one way or the other though to separate it in the right pile. I have gone the other way too, looked through my large junk box I have found silver and gold that I mistakenly relegated to scrap.

I have wiped the inside with 0000 steel wool so I'm not sure what is with the lines. I have a couple of other rings with laser-etched marks. I guess I could give it the bleach test and see if it turns black right away. Just seems a bit light like the other one.

It does look like it is marked .925 to me. But it doesn't look silver to me from the pictures. I say that because of what looks like corrosion or plating peeling off. Could be surface gunk that will polish off. Can't really say with much certainty from the picture.

One thing I have found gives the plated silver fakes away is Tarn X. Couple of dunks and the spots where it looks like corrosion or plating peeling, and those spots will either clean up to nice looking silver if it's real, or get worse if it's not.

Most of the stuff I've found stamped .925 MX or .925 Mex has started to show copper underneath after a good dose of Tarn X. Even the ones that started off looking pure .925 with no corrosion. I think "fake" everytime I see Mexican .925 anymore. And I'm usually right...

I cleaned it up and will post pictures when the sun comes up. I think the natural sun takes the best pictures. The polishing cloth turned very black and it polished up nicely. Still has the streaks, but I think it shows the engraving better. I don't see any signs of plating. YET!

I laughed at your post... you are a funny guy... not everything gonna be stainless but that ring you posted was easy to spot... us beach hunters are like jewelers, we know our stuff....

If you look it appears it says 316 upside down. Best thing I ever bought was a rare earth magnet I keep on the fridge.

I've just had so much fake gold this year already that I'm getting leery.

Here is a ring marked 14k and looks good, but is fake.

Another marked 18k, this one I knew right off to be fake.

Just this year.

I got a few better pictures? It sure looks like it etched 925. I have it sitting with a coin ring made from a 1956 silver half to compare colors. When it is dropped on the table it goes thud and not a ping.

Scratch it on your stone, lets see what the scratch mark looks like, it shouldn't thud if its 925. I got a couple rings mark 18k that are brass at least the stones were real, opals and rubies... I know the difference between lab created and real rubies...

Maybe the ring is pewter... https://www.impressart.com/pewter-ring-blank-4mm.html
