Hi. I sure could use some help identifying this button. I was able to get some of the writing to be visible, but I was afraid to do more to ruin what I could see. The button is the size of a nickel and has nothing on front. But the back has writing for sure and it looks like really old writing. Can anyone tell me what kind of button this is and is it as old as I think it is? Thank you. Oh, the button is not steel as it won't stick to a magnet.

Hi!
This is a typical flat button with quality markings from the early 19th century, circa 1800-1840.

Very cool button for sure. With the writing like that makes me believe it was from a quality garment. Congrats.

I agree with the age. But the back marks are very different than any that I’ve seen. It doesn’t look English?
