Sito scoop? Stealth?

I'm newer to beach & wet sand hunting than a lot of the members here but have learned a few things over the last year or so.

#1 - don't underestimate the value of a long & no hassle warranty. I don't have a Stealth scoop but now would put a $100 value on just the warranty easily. Welds on my purchased on Amazon scoop have failed three times now in just under 1 year. In hindsight, I should have returned it for a refund during the very short 3 month warranty. I would have been out $20 return shipping then but way ahead in the end.

#2 - The tube mount style for the handle can be a PITA if using a wooden handle. You will have to put in a ton of work into removing the handle when scoop repairs are needed or if you break the handle or just want to replace a handle. The handle gets stuck in there like you wouldn't believe.

#3 - You'll likely end up with more than one scoop. It's so disappointing to have a scoop fail while out there. Keep a backup scoop in the car. I use (and need) a larger 8" scoop with my Dual Field Surf PI but have found that I can easily use a smaller scoop the relatively few times I have taken the Equinox out.

The other issue with those off a discount site is the handle hole can very so u have to mod the handle. Ya wood swells. Single bolts can split fiberglass too. Earl.... buddy if u go selling one of those sugar scoops let me know... don’t need a handle

DEW / Chuck 3 ?s

Dew , you know that the Sugar Sand scoop with 1/4 inch holes is a 90 degree scoop , the hybrid yellow handle in the pick makes it a 20 degree in the bend on the handle , i have a plate bolted on to the sugar sands , i have yet to drill drainage holes in the plate, between the plate , handle's , i have a lot of money invested in both those scoops, also reinforced them with epoxy and fiberglass on the handles at the bend -which has a CF insert , one used slightly, one never used. :?::?::?: Chuck since you sold the scoop side of the business to a company in La California stating in your post to Dew ,who will be NOW-making the scoop's,#1 ARE they still going to honor the Life Time Sun Spot Warranty Forever :?: ,#2 and being another company is currently making SunSpot scoop's -IS the quality going to be the same as when you were making the scoop's ? #3 Does this mean NO more discount's for Forum member's , or what did you work out for US ? Don't take these ?s the wrong way, i currently own 4 SunSpot scoop's, not parting with them anytime soon, good luck in your Semi retirement , Thank's - you were good to me, but took me the wrong way, i am a person who like's to try a variety of scoop's- as well as machine's , happy hunting, Earl

Guess you can't tell the difference between a 920IX , and a 720I, because i never owned a 720I :crazy::crazy:, please do stick around for scoop school bro., study those image's:laughing::laughing::laughing:

This thread has been a disappointment. In it, I learned that Sunspot no longer sells scoops. Sunspot is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. No Way the new company can live up to how Chuck and his folks have treated us.

I'll always have the memory of the lady that took my order calling UPS and making them come back so she could get my order shipped the same day. Even tho I told her I didn't leave for the beach for 2 weeks.

.

What is Chuck's website and is there a YouTube video on the scoop?

Post #43 , i asked Chuck 3 important ?s , please give him time to respond , he is still a sponsor here, even though he is not making scoop's any longer , these ?s are very important to ALL member's , please feel free to ask additional ?s as i am sure he still has a share in the New company making his scoop line up, as he stated he was making scoop's for 30 years , that's a long time, i retired at 33 year's, just wonder what the new company's warranty is , being he sold the business , Xtreme scoop's are 10 year's , same quality .

Well ? # 1 It seems that the warranty is about the same, ? # 2 Quality Who know's until the Ca company -put's some scoop's out their , ? 3 Discount for forum member's -Who know's , i would have thought Chuck would have responded by now , or maybe the new company, however who know's maybe -they don't know we exist , anyway the warranty issue is OK . I did have the opportunity to speak with the owner at https://xtremescoops.com/ He wishes Chuck the best in retirement- of the scoop side of his business , he said his business is booming , at one time they had a hard time keeping up with order's, but they are all caught up now , and will be producing new scoop's down the road, I currently have the Xtreme X3 with the carbon fiber Anderson handle that he sell's and i like it, he also has the ash wood handle's - your preference , for all those wondering about the quality , same as Chuck's scoop's when he was making them, happy hunting Earl

Might as well assume Sunspot's switch http://www.stealthscoop.com to the new location will be business as usual. Chuck posted that he will be working with them for a couple years with support and new design work. That should mean a smooth transition.

I had just sent in a non-stealth scoop for repair not realizing that the company had changed hands though I was curious about the CA address. I'll be able to report back later how that experience goes.

So...... is it a made in America scoop? I understand they will honor those scoops now with lifetime warranty.... but that may change once Chuck drops out for later ones. I realize Chuck cant answer this one he'll have not control at that point.

That lift assist looks primed to take a chunk put of your leg with 1 wrong move.. I've considered making up 1 but deemed it unnecessary

This is something very important to read from the website link above. Look under repairs and see how much to report ANY scoop!

If you took your scoop to a local welder who does not know scoops, just think of the cost alone!

He will be getting my scoops to repair from now on a d this week I should be shipping one out for repair and it is my favorite scoop that a weld broke.

The new company Chuck is using to produce his scoops has been very fast to fix or replace items damaged... broncofan snapped his CF handle and already has a new one... Swinglow also had a CF handle replaced by contacting Betty Vo in California... Chuck is staying on to produce new items but don't you think its time he deserves a break from working his entire life and letting him enjoy the hobby some?

Good job throwing up that link to a upstart company that couldn't come up with its own design instead copying Sunspot and Stavr scoops... in my book that is low class... but then again I understand why they gave you a free scoop.

Why do I have this mental image of Surfmaster detecting on a beach, hitting a target and asking his caddy for his 720i or Stavr?

.
LOL...
Snowing here today, I love this entertainment!

The funny thing is I never thought of my better half as my caddy !

How am I going to break this to her? Should she also carry the "Quiet" signs and hold them up when I am MD ? LOL!

I kind of like never seeing some peoples posts unless they are quoted by someone else. I see I don't miss anything important.

I have bought 8 of Chucks scoops. 6 with CF handles. I watched his scoops evolve and saw first hand the design changes and ideas he had before he changed his original Stealth.

I also saw the time and thought he put into his creation. I was impressed.

Anybody can copy a good design and steal it for their own gratification. However those copy cats are only out for one thing. To take money from the people that put their product through a huge thought and trial and error process.

I don't post much anymore and will leave all the drama to the mods and others. I am just out there to have fun and enjoy my life. Pick the equipment you want and enjoy your finds.
