my excal is getting tired or I'm losing some confidence in it. My question is what is the consensus on the best water detector for both wading and shallow diving up to 10 feet as I have a hookah that I want to use(blue nemo3). I've seen a lot of videos with the Deus 2 but not much with the manticore which is supposed to be good to 15-16 feet. I've read about the hassles with the deus charging and antenna wire but I'm thinking I can deal with those issues. Any feedback is appreciated. Joe

One vote for Manticore because of the large screen with graph. 15 months in and I'm very happy with it and.......NO FLOODING! Check out "Detect Florida" and "Savannah Harps" youtubers. They both use Manti's although Harps is mostly a wet sand hunter instead of a water hunter. I'm in the water all the time this time of year chest deep with no issues from the machine. There's a guy that dives on the other forum named "Skull diver" that bought one and is loving it.

As far as out of the water I would say D2 or manticore, I'm not sure once you go submerged. Can you see the screen in your waters? Here vis is less then 12 inches so a screen submerged is useless. Once boating season starts it kills the visibility.

Big Al loves his Nox with the 15 inch coil....

Excalibur's for waist deep & submerging, machines with an ID screen knee deep to dry sand , that is the way I have worked it since 2009 , the 15 coil Craig is not a water coil , the Equinox 15 will not hold up with wave action in the water , sooner or later you will need to repair the coil EARS , they brake , as my old one , repaired , now used by DavidDs

One thing you can do with a Deus ll is detach the controls and mount them up high with a long antenna attached. You can hunt chest deep in murky water and look at the VDI out of the water. Manticore you can't. Where I hunt I haven't seen any advantage of one outdoing the other on depth. Some days they both go 14" deep. Other days they both go 12". Main thing on the Manticore is check the headphone connection. My friend doesn't disconnect his and clean it. It's rotten looking inside. The Deus ll you have to disconnect it to charge it. And that's the time to use a magnifying glass and light and check it to be sure it isn't turning green. I occasionally blast mine with electronics cleaner to be on the safe side.

as your using the Deus II with the remote held up out of the water and the antenna connected to the coil I believe you could still use the wireless headphones. Then you can keep your charge/headphone connection plugged/closed.. Just don't make a mistake and duck your head in the waves..

Not to confuse you brother either one would do awesome. I have friends who use both. I have both and prefer the Manticore. Maybe cause I’m a lazy hunter. Just charge the detector not the coil and the detector and headphones. Both are excellen. Get it and learn it . HH, Phil

The wireless coil is the D2's party trick, if you get the XP pin pointer they all communicate and you can hear the pin pointer through the same headphones as your detector, and it also means you can use the ws6 puck on one coil and the control box on another coil giving you a 2nd detector for the price of a coil.
None of this really helps you in the water though, but it means it's got a few moves for dry sand/dirt hunting if that's your thing in the off season.

thanks all-prob go with minelab as it's charge one and done. I don't plan getting deeper than 10 feet as that's the limit on the nemo hookah so I hope to be waterproof for that. the feedback is appreciated. Joe
