Silver Plated thing

Found today at old homesite dating back to mid 1800s, looks early 20th century. Pretty sure the front is silver plated and very decorative. No markings of any kind, might have been affixed to something. Ideas welcome as to what it might be. Rang up like a silver 1/2 dollar.

I'm sure I'm wrong but I would guess as an individual ashtray, they were popular I think in the 40s.(??)

I agree stamped metal ashtray. I remember my grandfather having those around his house. Fancier ones my grandma kept unused for ashes and candy in them for us kids

My guess too. super cool ashtray!..but for some reason it looks older than 40s

thanks guys, my first guess was a tray too wasn't sure. Has the look of late Victorian age to me.
