Sandwich Illinois

We will find some stuff buddy! Nothing is ever hunted out. Harder to find, choppier ID's, I'm sure. But hunted out? I'm not so sure.
Yeah I don't think think so either. I think ICM is trying to scare us away from the secret buried treasure there. LOL

The Forest preserve this thread is baout that was once a country club is between Sandwich and Somonauk. I am certain many people have detected there but not so sure many went into the woods where the old fairways used to be. We will find out!!

Actually I think ICM is talking about another place anyway. WHEW, there might be some goodies left after all:laughing:

Maybe "hunted out" is the wrong term , i have gone over the klatt field park north/south...then east/west...in my opinion i know where I've been and and walked at every site i've been to, .. it would do me no good to walk it again for a week just for 1-2 more coins when i have so many new prospective areas yet to hit.....

BTW it was just Klatt field(and some other Plano/Sandwich areas) i was referring to. I have not researched the sandwich/somonauk golf course you speak of.. but I wish you guys/gals all the best of luck...I hope ya'll find bunches of treasures!

It's all good. Most of us are obstinate enough to believe we will find what others miss, and no one will/can cover it like we do. otherwise we would not be in this hobby

Just bumping this back to the front page, but with a question. I've been trying to find some kind of layout for the old golf course but haven't had a shred of luck. The Rockford library wasn't much help. I'm guessing the DeKalb County library has a better chance. I was just trying to get an idea where the tee boxes might have been so I can load them into my GPS.

No matter what, it'll be good to meet some new faces.

Just outside Sandwich Illinois there used to be a natural lake called Davis Lake. Also, outside Sandwich is a small forest preserve that my father tells me was once a golf course, complete with a club house.

Where David? Can you screen shot the map and show us or give near by cross streets because the lake you mention has indeed dried up LOL. The location of your meeting place would be good too.

To do a screen shot find the key on your keyboard (prt sc) and it will save to clipboard this google map link of Sandwich IL and then open the paint program and click (paste). Edit the map with locations and save to your pictures. Upload to your post. I might want some of this hunt :)

Welcome ChicagoDigger:wave: are you new to the hobby or just getting around to registering in FMDF? Have you been out yet? The couple warmer days we had I spent dusting off my cycle. Bolingbrook here if you want to polk around that carnival field behind the police station. I need to get familiar with my equipment again... bring sandvich.

I looked everywhere for a scorecard or a course layout and had no luck. The preserve is not that big so I would hunt any flat areas in the woods that are fairway width of at least 25 yards or wider. Courses in the early 1900's were not like today's and the fairways were not very wide. Good luck!

New to digging?

I am not new, but I am by far what you could call a professional. I like to dig though. I have an ATPRO and A Fisher F2, still learning the ATPRO

So far folks, we are good to go for April 11th so cross your fingers for good weather! I do not have all the permissions for the old lake so that may not happen on the 11th. I will update this thread as we get closer!

So can we flash mob?... come on it will be funny. Town probably hasn't had any exciting local news in years.

Mysterious horde of metal detector enthusiast descend on unsuspecting Illinois township, city officials unable to determine what they are looking for.

I do happen to be close friends of the Mayor of Sandwich....I can have him swing by...make a local news story about all this! For the record....I am excited about having this session and meeting some great fellow enthusiasts!

Still hoping my son and I can make it but my lower back is acting up again. :( Kneeling actually makes it feel better, but standing for a long time or sitting in a car really starts to aggravate it. Last year I broke my tailbone in April (never fully healed) and now this... I'm starting to think I'm jinxed!
