found this today in a bed of quartz rocks. It stood out because of its dark color among light tan quartz rocks.

It is not attracted to a magnet but I have read that there are stone meteorites but are more rare than iron one.

so what do you think? stone or stone meteorite?

opps, my wife interrupted to expain a little task she wanted me to perform. Clean up the garage.

It looks more like a lump of slag, to me, but if you have a facebook account, I'm betting that there's a meteor group on there that could help you confirm.

A larger pic would help, BTW. The current pic is pretty small. And a shot with light fully on it will help people ID if it's slag, natural rock, or meteorite (there are differences in how they melt as they go through the atmosphere). Good luck!

A rough idea of where it was found may help someone to identify it too.
