Found this at an 1830s homestead site, near the original driveway close to the stone barn. Original homesteader was a renown stonemason but moved away in 1863, so might not have been his. Item has brass decorative casing surrounding, what appears to be lead with metal rod inserted into it. It broke off something. Originally thought of tool handle or lever, possibly a carriage but couldn't find any matches.

I'm leaning towards the handle of a candle snuffer. Looks too light weight for anything else. Don't really know.

I think it could possibly be the handle of a fireplace shovel, poker or utensil. Hoser is probably right though.
