Possible new "must have" metal detecting accessory for summertime.

I cannot stand detecting in the summer here in So. Cal; The heat, sweat, knats, bugs...Etc. Im basically the opposite of the east coasters :p I detect in the winter, fall and spring and not summer, Although............ This summer I am going to give it a try, but dont know if I can handle lugging around another peice of equipment to keep me cool. :cool3:
Let us know how it works out.

Same here in Georgia. Fall, Winter (if above 50 degrees, which it often is in Atlanta) and Spring until the snakes come out.

Keep thinking about an item as this. Man it would be great to have something like this and for it to really work good.

Ok, I continued my quest to beat the heat and I finally found something that actually works!

I bought one of these things last week and tried it out for the first time today. Spent several hours detecting out in the heat and this thing really provides some relief! You put it on your belt and it blows air up in your shirt. I put it on my back and it really did a good job. It’s the most powerful one I could find on Amazon. 12000mAh, with a claimed runtime of 24 hours on low and 12 hours on high. I haven’t fully tested it yet, but I did use it on high for about 3.5 hours today and it was still going strong. There are some cheaper ones available, but they have a lot less runtime and power.

The one con I’ve found with this one so far is that it has a plastic belt clip. Would’ve been better in metal. Overall though, I’m very happy with it!

Ok, I used this thing out in the hot sun for the first time today and I do not recommend it. It works ok indoors or on a warm day with cloud cover, but on a really hot day out in the sun it’s pretty worthless IMO. It actually made me sweat where it was sitting on my neck. I’ll be returning it.

I wondered about that. AC only really works in an enclosed environment. That thing looks way too bulky.

Yeah, after using the neck version it really just annoyed me. The waist fan works great though. Once mounted on my belt, I don’t even notice it’s there.. Other than the constant breeze it provides.

I've found that the best way to beat the heat is to wait for the cooler weather to arrive. Last year I only detected twice in July and just once in August and those hunts were all very early in the morning. Nowadays if the temp hits 80 degrees, I'm staying home.

I'm too impatient to wait for cool weather, and too lazy to get up early in the morning.

Got one ordered.

Thanks RH. I tried the CXliy. But it got your neck real cold where the plates were and not a lot of air circulation. Maybe the belt fan will be the trick. Thanks for all of your information. One more question. I have an XP Deus 2 and recently got a CTX. HO--- which is the better machine?

No problem bud! Been using the belt fan for a while now and it’s still working great. Definitely helps on those really hot days. Now I just need a Sombrero for some shade!

As for the CTX vs D2, they’re both great detectors. The 3030 was my go-to machine for years and I still love it, although I’ll be selling it to a friend of mine very soon since the D2 has taken over the role of my primary detector. I’m going to put back the money from the CTX so that I can preorder whatever machine Minelab plans on releasing next. The main reason I used the CTX for so long was that it’s an outstanding coinshooter. Best ID in the business with tones to match, and unique 2D discrimination. I tried the D1 and the Nox 800 as well, but always kept going back to the CTX. With the Deus 2, I’ve found that it’s also an outstanding coinshooter, plus it’s lightweight and more versatile, which is why it earned the role of my primary detector.

I like the Deus 2 and the CTX. It would be hard to part with eather. Thanks for this info and about the belt fan. Hot here in Tennessee and definitely need it. Thanks, man.

I bought that unit in this post, and a couple others like it. Totally useless. When you turn it off, it traps heat next to your next. And you can't leave it on all the time, because the battery runs out quick.

Useless, I'm sending mine back
Yeah, same here. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up with my original post. The neck fans are worthless IMHO.
