So, i managed to get permissions to metal detect at a mansion built in the 1830s, and I was super excited to see what there was to be found at such an old location. However, they didn't have much land for me to detect, so I actually only found a broken necklace/bracelet that wasn't old or interesting and a zinc penny. When i was about to leave i came across a very strange signal. My detector was switching between iron, nickel, and foil. It was also extremely deep for the type of signal i was getting, so i decided to dig it. To my surprise, it was a little rock, about an inch big, that was about a foot underground. It was extremely heavy for its size, and i have been fascinated by meteorites and anything space related, so i did some research and it fits basically everything that describes a meteorite except for one thing. I grinded into the rock to find a full metal core, but it isn't as magnetic as people say iron meteorites are. I'll post some pictures so you can see for yourself to see if anyone has any opinions on whether or not it is a meteorite. I also grinded down one side and attempted to etch the polished surface with ferric chloride to see if there were any Widmanstätten patterns, and to my surprise it looks like there are but i'm still not an expert when it comes to this.

Looks like it could be Hematite...Ive found a lot like that and when ground look exactly like what you have

I'm pretty sure it isn't hematite because i asked my astronomy teacher, who also teaches some geology, and he had some hematite samples and they were way more magnetic than the rock i found. The samples were also fairly bigger than my rock and it seemed to weigh more than the samples. Does hematite have a metallic looking core though?

I've found numerous pieces just like that. I even went through the same process, cutting polishing, etching etc. Frankly I think it's forge waste. Not the right crystalline structure.
On the magnetism, when ordinarily magnetic metals are heated to very high temperatures they exhibit what is known as para magnetism. Which, simply stated is "exhibits a very small level of magnetic property".

I'm not an expert, but that doesn't look like a meteorite's pattern, it looks more like steel to me.

I believe you got a cross section at the wrong angle I could have 15° wedge from the bottom of the rock to the top of top to bottom right where ur previous cut and face was put. I'm just guessing the intersecting iron and nickel will intersect at more extreme angles. They looking at some photos of iron meteorites structure... if u found this and dont know of a strewn field or anything I'd suggest you send a sample to science to see what they say! I've sent 12 from Minnesota, but no luck
