I have been metal detecting for a few weeks now. My backyard and neighborhood has a ton of history with the Underground Railroad and once war grounds, and recently I came across a metal detector when cleaning from years ago. Could anyone help ID these finds? I’m in the process of cleaning them to better get a look at the horse shoe and others! Any advice would be great!! These were found in my backyard at the bottom of a hill in Western New York.

Welcome to the forum. You picked a great place to hang out with some awesome folks who ALL love metal detecting. Great batch of finds you made, but sadly I do believe your tube of toothpaste has had it. :rofl2:

Welcome to the addiction lol I think you are going to find a ton of neat stuff at that location....plus you got your lucky horse shoe!

Hi SpaceKitty.

Given that you're a newbie, your finds raise a question:

Are you deliberately digging up that iron, or do you think you have to dig out that iron for some reason?

Both! One of the previous owners dumped a lot of metal on the property and when we’re mowing it’s a headache going around certain areas and finding more misc metal with some not even buried and just mixed in the weeds. I also enjoy unearthing the metal to help decrease pollution and don’t want to harm all the animals that visit the woods in the back!

Thank you for all your responses! This is very interesting and I appreciate everyone’s reply’s thus far!

I dig that iron too. The big garbage just hides the good deeper stuff. (I say "good stuff" knowing none of it is valuable. It just tells a story) Hit it again another day with different settings or higher power, you may find more that you missed. But even iron may tell a part of the story of your land. Have fun with it!
