My Initial Thoughts on the Equinox 800. BEWARE

Do what you wish, but to be honest, i would get the 800, why, more tweak settings, option's, it comes with the Module, and the Blue tooth headphones for 250- 300 more it's worth it, you will like the headphone's, Earl Ps coils and all accessories , when they do become available , i will be buying the 6, 15, also, remember that the coils are interchangeable between the 600 and 800, everyone is waiting for the accessories to roll out , everything is hot wright now, the only thing that has lightened up a bit is the 600 availability , Earl

At least I am honest and have admitted from the beginning I have not read the manual. Just a bit to turn down the sensitivity.

You went about it in the wrong way... there aint a bunch dummies on this forum and when start stating stuff especialy negative stuff about a NEW detector you better know how to back it up. Trust me I do a lot of test and get hammered a lot for doing it .....

I really like how the entire forum has basically turned into a couple guys checking every thread to see if Scuba makes a comment that could possibly be construed as negative ,if you try and look for it, about the Equinox and then pouncing on him like a pack of middle school flunkies with nothing better to do...

This is especially interesting since I remember explicitly Calabash Digger joining here in '16 and IMMEDIATELY bashing Whites and the MX Sport into the ground at every possible opportunity over a couple issues, when he didn't even own one...

This is ScubaDetector's thread, right? He started it to give HIS early observations on HIS new machine. Seems like a great contribution. Thanks Scuba. The first response of a few to that is to turn "Friendly Metal Detecting Forum" into "Clicky loudmouths being disrespectful and condescending to other longtime fellow members forum"....

Yeah and almost forgot when have to send it back 3 times to get it updated.... If you call that whites fiasco a few small issues I would hate to see what you call big issues.. BTW I'm reffering back to the release of the whites MX Sport...

Makes a nice Surf Pi DF, but most prefer not to have a single frequency machine in salt water, i guess the comparison should be with the AT pro vs MXsport , best in the fresh water club, not the multi freq. salt and fresh- Nox Club . PS Calabash look at the sniffer on my Champion line CBR, i am trying to get him to sniff out silver , and gold howboutit

The simple fact every other post on here is about the EQ 800 makes me look at other machines. It may be the best thing since sliced bread but I won't be getting one. I prefer to do my own thing. To each their own. Just my 2 cents worth.

Scuba, been reading along for a bit and wanted to put in my two cents worth. From what I read in the OP, all you did was give an honest opinion of your limited time with a new machine. What's wrong with that? I value your opinion and will see it as that, YOUR opinion. Will it make me buy a certain machine? Probably not as my funds are limited and Minelab is priced above what I'm comfortable with spending. I don't understand all the harsh chatter against your opinion, after all you are entitled to your opinion.
I've been detecting for 35+ years and used some really low cost machines (low cost, not cheaply made) because most were used. But I learned my machine and found some outstanding things! I enjoy the opinions of others but take it as just that. You must be doing things right as the gold finds you get are impressive. I want to thank you for your honest opinion, and hope that you continue to keep giving it to us on this "friendly" forum.
I will keep my ATPro swinging and keep posting what I find. You do the same!

Are you saying the Equinox is a pile of junk and you are glad you bought a Deus? That in the time you had it the face plates are cracking and you had to send it back three times already?

But this one takes the cake. This statement has more than one connotation. It's ok to be excited about the 800, but this crosses the line.

The only thing I know I said negative about it is it told me the Canadian penny the E-Trac hit hard on, that it was trash. I also said I can't judge a machine on just one cent though.

Today in less than an hour AFTER I found out how to adjust the sensitivity in the manual, I found two deep pennies. Unfortunately I was alone and had no E-Trac next to me to compare.

I meant absolutely no bashing when I THOUGHT it couldn't keep a user program or that it couldn't be programed with a computer. Yes before I bought one I was skeptical of the hype and I still am. If it finds me a gold chain in one of my lakes it will make a believer out of me.

I actually refuse to bash anyone for the machine they use or how they use it. It is their life not mine.

I do have a question though. When it was falsing a lot I was told I could do a factory reset on it. I couldn't find that information anywhere in the manual. Is it there? Not that I need to now since I was able to turn the sensitivity down.

Peace. I can't wait to try it in lake St Clair where the huge parties are at and I found that 59.60 gram gold chain last year. I know there are smaller ones hiding out there.

For reset instructions see page 12 in User's manual.
There are 2 different resets btw.
A profile reset
And a complete reset (all modes)

Think the gist of this thread is basically, “Beware, if your detector is set up bad for the spot you’re hunting...you’re probably going to get bad results.”

Scuba, not sure if you’ll truly like the Nox or not but your second run was much better. It’s not going to be for everyone, just as no detector is...but I don’t think turning it on straight out of the box and trying to run it “blind” could be called anything close to a fair chance. Sure you could do that with some detectors, but this is really not one of them. It’s a little more advanced than that. I get how your first observations are “truthful” because you just posted facts of what they were, but an “honest first representation of the detector and it’s abilities”...they truly were not. It was set up wrong, you got bad results...it’s not a beep and dig by any means, not that you ever said it was...but I hope you have time to play with the settings in full and give it a fair chance.

BTW, full reset is just holding in the power button for like 5 seconds.
