Lost civil war treasure / FBI recovery ?

You are cruel..... Much too cruel.

......all in fun Tom, just joking  (and I know you are joking back )

I did get a request forwarded to me though for a funny edit, if they want to say who they are, that's fine, if not, that's fine too

The request read: "Maybe Gary could put Tom's face on a picture of Elvis playing " don't be cruel " on the guitar and put it on the current thread"

......so here is what I was able to come up with

treasures that have been found / partially recovered

Okay, did a search to see what legendary treasures have been found and here is one link:

15 Hidden Treasures That Have Been Found (And 10 That We're Still Looking For)

https://www.thetravel.com/15-hidden-treasures-that-have-been-found-and-10-that-were-still-looking-for/

The silver treasure from the Philippines that the USA dumped in Manila bay to keep it out of Japanese hands , some recovered by the Japanese , some by Americans , some still there under the muck in the bay. I own a few of these coins that were sea salvaged . https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2...n-caballo-bay-japans-sabotaged-treasure-hunt/ a account of the silver recovery by the Americans https://www.corregidor.org/chs_trident/salvage/medina_01.htm

Those are some awesome coins you have there Dave . I haven't gotten into
playing the bidding wars in some time now . It's almost impossible to get
a great deal on some of those popular ones as they are just too closely watched. I may start throwing out some " Hail Mary " low bids , not watch the
bidding and pray for a miracle . I remember you telling me about one of those great scores you made but I forgot which particular coin it was .

have made a few nice scores on the coins , this year with silver prices up making it harder . Have to know the real value of the coins and not over pay. Have some times bought a group of coins just to get 1 coin in the group. Hope to find some deals later this year.

I think I'll plant a rumor about a lost civil war treasure in my back yard just before it's time to plant my garden and get my soil turned up the easy way! :)

I heard somewhere that when Tom-in-CA was a little boy he used to tell all the other kids that there was no Santa Claus and at Halloween all the neighborhood trick or treaters had to give him 30% of their candy .Somehow I was not very surprised .

Hey, it's a tough job having to be a kill-joy. It's a tough job running an extortion racket. But if it wasn't for control freaks like us, then nothing would get done right in this world ! :hi5:

Well said , I can respect one who knows who they are and what their purpose in life is and are honest with themselves .Like the song says " it's your thing , do what you want to do , I can't tell you who to sock it to " .

If I had a dollar for every sure-fired iron-clad story like this that I've heard, I'd be rich already.

If you really want to tally up stories like this, all ya need to do is git yourself back-issues of 1960s/1970s treasure mag's. Each of them was filled with "lost mine" and "stolen stage coach" loot stories. A buddy of mine even submitted one of the stories that got published, in order to the $50 or whatever acceptance payment. All of it was fanciful musings. But hey, toss in a few faded newspaper clippings, and a drawing of a miner posed next to his burro, then .... by golly ...... it MUST be true ! We got a good laugh wondering whether anyone went out looking for any treasure.

And so too is the genesis/roots of the Dent's Run nonsense : Just campfire legend ghost-story bunk.

.....hey, maybe Tom has finally been convinced to search for some of those treasures ?

Check this out......

GKL : You and Dave are a great asset to the md'ing hobby and community. My wife got a good laugh on the latest cartoons. But.... I had to explain to her how I got this kill-joy skeptic reputation. Doh !
