Lions and Tig...Bobcats and Bears, oh my! (My Game Cameras)

man it's good, I sure like when it gets into the video like yours. Looks like you appended the video, good job.

Missouri only has a few bears here, I'd like to get a video like yours, or do I want bears around LOL What about getting in trash cans, we have trouble from raccoons doing that

thanx

The motion sensor is seeing the "Light" coming off the "animal" Even us HU-Mans Glow LOL The PIR sensors [Passive Infrared] sees the Glow from the animal, and the hotter something is makes a big different in distant that the PIR can see [think about the difference between a sparrow & a bear]

Also, the PIR sort of uses a Morse Code SOS, it's seeing DOTs of light. Looking into the PIR Lens you can see a bunch of small squares, they are individual small lenses. When an animal is walking along, the Little Lenses are like ON-Off lights to the sensor.[SOS] The sensor only tells the camera to come on when it sees several Dots, trying to ignore false & not take pictures

The Motion Camera has 2 or 3 timers in it. One is to wait the camera to Boot before taking the camera. I think cold makes the Boot longer [90 or 0 degrees] maybe a few seconds If it's a Video, the second is how long a video stays on [camera setting]. The last is when to Wait before being Alarmed. Your settings of the Movement Camera might be 30 seconds or a minute etc before becoming alarmed

That Boot time can make a difference between alarm times. If it's slow, the animal may be in the middle of the picture or even when it's leaving. I sure like when it gets into it.

because of the times, we need to make the animal across the camera, not coming into it or leaving away from it. We want a bunch os Dots, 1 or 2 make the sensor thing its a false, etc

The Night camera Flood Light; those that have lights we can't see, they don't get the distanse of those that we can see like a lot of red cigarettes

Anyway - just adding my 2¢

I'm very knowledgeable about how trail cameras function and I use the best cameras made, but even those cameras do not stop motion well when in IR mode. The cheapest camera I own will stop motion better during the day, than the best cameras made will during the night. It's something that I wish Prometheus' engineers could overcome with technology.

I could tell from your stuff here that you know about camera's and your great pix/video's here. I figured your stuff here would cause some of the guys get some camera's so thought I'd add some familiar stuff to help about them and how they work, etc

I love Motion Camera's and glad you show them here - thanx again

Trail cam pictures

Thanks for sharing your pics with us! I enjoy seeing all the different animals that come across the trails. :coolpics:

Here are a few from where I deer hunt in MN:

I can tell that the buck’s neck is swollen. Is that a small wolf, because it looks like the size of a coyote when comparing it to the skunk?

I literally have to erase hundreds and hundreds of critter photos every week. Sometimes every day.

Cheers [emoji482], I’m glad you enjoy my images and I would offer my experience to anyone who would like to take good quality close-up images of wildlife. There’s more of a learning curve than you would expect and I’ve already suffered through it. [emoji38]

Yep, it's a wolf. And I know what you mean about all the photos. It gets to be very time consuming.

some of your bobcats don't look the same as those in Missouri but that last one sure does. 7 or 8 years ago we had a lot "shrews" [short-tailed shrew] around our fields and I got a lot video's of them but when I stop seeing shrews I quit getting many video's of bobcats or even foxes. I guess their "food" went else where LOL

thanx showing your pix's

This is one of what I simply call the medium sized ones. The smaller ones have more distinct markings and the big ones have relatively faint markings on their bodies, but have nice stripes on their legs.

I use Class 10 cards, which is the highest speed that’s recommended by the manufacturers. For some reason the super high speed cards are not recommended.

I’m not very knowledgeable about photography, but game cameras normally have a “Blur Reduction” or “Fast Motion” setting for the IR flash, when in photo mode. I’m not sure what it does, maybe increases the shutter speed?

Remember, there is no visible flash. It’s still pitch black in front of the camera, so I would imagine that the shutter speed can’t be increased too high, or there wouldn’t be enough time to let enough IR light into the camera.

Also, game cameras don’t focus like a regular camera.

Did you notice a big difference in picture quality going to class 10 cards from class 4?

I've used Class 10 SD cards from the beginning in the cameras that I use in video mode and I've always used Class 4 cards in the few cameras that I still use in photo mode, so I've never had a comparison. I don't believe that you need Class 10 cards for cameras that you are just taking photos with.

Been pretty quiet, if you don't count small animals and deer, just a few Bobcats and a bear. I think it has been three weeks since I’ve had a lion.

I was going through and deleting a bunch of photos and videos today and I thought I’d put up some more photos. This is the lion I call One-Eyed Willy. He used to be around relatively often, but I haven’t seen him in some time.

There may be a few repeat photos, but not many. I didn’t want to go back through the thread, so I just used my memory. [emoji854]

Getting photos of game birds is much more rare than critters.
