Lions and Tig...Bobcats and Bears, oh my! (My Game Cameras)

I don’t keep many deer photos, because they are so prevalent, just ones that grab my attention somehow.

Here’s a Bobcat kitten and a couple of Lions. Notice the canine puncture wounds on the rear end of the Lion.

Hey CW… that’s cool how you can mash up several images to make it look like a group meeting photo. :goodjob:

I’m too computer challenged to do photoshop. [emoji38] The photoshop was done for me by a childhood friend. I put a sign up for a sick kid, with his name in reflective tape. Surprisingly to me, it reflected from infrared light. The reflection would catch the attention of all the animals, down to even mice, so it made for some fun photos for the kid, who printed them out and put them on his wall. My friend put all the animals together in one photo.

For the FMDF photo, all I did was black out the sign and poorly print FMDF with the computer mouse. [emoji23]

Did you notice the CW he added into the info strip on the camera? [emoji3]

a log across a creek is a great place, man you get a lot bobcat video's

I’ve had fewer lions and bears this year, because I lost my big logs across the creek last winter in a flood. I had 4” of rain in 20 hours and I own a narrow canyon that is fed by three other narrow canyons. The water came up fast and hard, and took the logs as well as two of my cameras with it. Check out my videos on YouTube from last year if you want to see the log crossing that I lost. It was a beautiful spot.

Even good trail cameras have a difficult time stopping motion when they are operating in IR(infrared).

What SD card speeds are you using? The old tech is rated at 4. The new tech is rated a 10? It is the value of how fast the SD card writes the information it gets.

I use Class 10 cards, which is the highest speed that’s recommended by the manufacturers. For some reason the super high speed cards are not recommended.

I’m not very knowledgeable about photography, but game cameras normally have a “Blur Reduction” or “Fast Motion” setting for the IR flash, when in photo mode. I’m not sure what it does, maybe increases the shutter speed?

Remember, there is no visible flash. It’s still pitch black in front of the camera, so I would imagine that the shutter speed can’t be increased too high, or there wouldn’t be enough time to let enough IR light into the camera.

Also, game cameras don’t focus like a regular camera.

The motion sensor is seeing the "Light" coming off the "animal" Even us HU-Mans Glow LOL The PIR sensors [Passive Infrared] sees the Glow from the animal, and the hotter something is makes a big different in distant that the PIR can see [think about the difference between a sparrow & a bear]

Also, the PIR sort of uses a Morse Code SOS, it's seeing DOTs of light. Looking into the PIR Lens you can see a bunch of small squares, they are individual small lenses. When an animal is walking along, the Little Lenses are like ON-Off lights to the sensor.[SOS] The sensor only tells the camera to come on when it sees several Dots, trying to ignore false & not take pictures

The Motion Camera has 2 or 3 timers in it. One is to wait the camera to Boot before taking the camera. I think cold makes the Boot longer [90 or 0 degrees] maybe a few seconds If it's a Video, the second is how long a video stays on [camera setting]. The last is when to Wait before being Alarmed. Your settings of the Movement Camera might be 30 seconds or a minute etc before becoming alarmed

That Boot time can make a difference between alarm times. If it's slow, the animal may be in the middle of the picture or even when it's leaving. I sure like when it gets into it.

because of the times, we need to make the animal across the camera, not coming into it or leaving away from it. We want a bunch os Dots, 1 or 2 make the sensor thing its a false, etc

The Night camera Flood Light; those that have lights we can't see, they don't get the distanse of those that we can see like a lot of red cigarettes

Anyway - just adding my 2¢
