Large Gear w/ square shaft hole

Please see the attached image. It is a cleaned up version of a gear I dug in my yard.

Any ideas what it might be for?

It is about 5" in diameter and about 1-1/2" thick.

Very common sort of thing on older farm equipment. The first thing that came to mind was a beater bar drive gear off a manure spreader.
