Looking for information again. Found these 2 knives about 50 feet apart. What’s y’all’s thoughts on them other than them looking rough? Clearly been in the ground a long time. One on the left still has part of the wood left on both sides. Also how would you try to clean them up? Toms brook Va

Well you are right. They are on the rough side and about the only way to take some of the crud off would be through electrolysis. One other way is soak them in vinegar. That is a mild acid and will melt the rust. Thats what I use on real rusty chains and it works. I'm sure the more experienced restorers on here will be able to give you better info. Good luck.

Man, those things are toasted! Best of luck getting a positive ID. I'd say electrolysis is probably your best bet as far as trying to clean them.

This knife is one bladed, nice and slim. Couldn't photograph the blade but it says John Primrle, Belknar HDW and MFG. One the back it has the number 4995 with a star under the number.

Nice find. I love finding old knives and just thinking of the history behind them.

старые ножи и просто думать об их истории.
often someone was killed with a knife and then thrown out ... why think about it?
I throw them away instead. although I am engaged in forging, I very rarely take knives, and then in order to see how it was made.

your dumb computer spelled the name wrong [ John Primble ] my computer does that too. I had 2 pocket knives by John Primble when I bought in High School, 1967 (used, $5). My dumb jeans thru one out of my pocket but I still have the other one. I keep the good ones in my sock drawers...

Ya don't often think of someone getting killed with a pocket knife, but it happens i guess. Sock drawer definately safer than a holy pocket, but not always at hand when you need it.

Dug up this one today also. Rough looking but not quite as rough as the others. This one looks to have a big blade and a smaller blade.
