jagged little thingamajig

My yard seems to be a junk yard. I find all kinds of !!!!. some of it I can identify, some of it I don't care about. some of it is strange and odd ...

this thing I found was all bent outa shape and broke as I straightened it. it looks like it may have had some "scissoring" action to it. the outside(?) lengths may have been attached to the two little pieces that stick out from the main portion.

what could this oddball item be?

It reminds me of the mechanism on the under side of a folding Ironing board that allows setting the ironing board height.
Could have the same purpose but for some other type of folding chair, table, etc.
