CS minies

Never found one of these till last year, hit a spot that was on the retreat route of Braggs army out of Ky after the battle of Perryville and scored about 30-40. These bullets will ALWAYS have a mold scar on the side of the body. Spoke recently to a reknowned bullet collector dealer and he says these have been identified as a product of a Nashville Tn lab.

Nope you're the first one. I held off posting spencers cuz I have the bullet and the casing, but I was really hoping someone would post a complete one. Those are beautiful! High up on my wish list.

Those are cool! Thanks for sharing! Here's another CS made three ring minie, although a bit worse for wear. Charleston Arsenal high base.

Cool, glad ya'll are liking the thread!

Here's a 58 cal three ringer Washington Arsenal star base, my first one found on Cole's hill in 2011.

Who's next?
OK buddy I've recovered two different star base bullets. One small & one big. I'll look though my stuff & post them if its OK. Also I've got five & six spoke pressed & turned bullets. Just have to dig them out & take pics of them. Nice bullet anyway. HH TIM

Don't know as I've seen a star base in anything other than 58. That's cool! Post it when you find it! I actually just dug another 58 star base yesterday. Only good find for the day so I doubt I'll make a full post on it. So... much... aluminum... lol.

OH RIGHT! A new bullet. How about a ringtail sharps?

Sorry the size of the star is different. Not the caliber.

Oh, got it! Haven't looked at the size of the star in mine, will have to check that out.

In the mean time, how about some fresh dug 44 colt dragoons.

CS "Round Nose" .58 3-Ringer

Great thread! I've got a few I will be adding. Found this one in the river last year. It's the only CS bullet to come from the site & the only one I have in my collection. Mason & McKee has it listed as #375 in my bullet book, which says it's for a CS rifle or rifle musket. Here's a pic of it next to a .58 Minie & before & after cleaning pics. One of my favorites.

Cool! Whats the base on that one look like, Wolf?

It's conical just like a .58 minie. Here's a few pics. The nose also has a sprue or cast mark. Also check out the side casting mark and the square grooves on the next to last pic.

Here's A Rare One Kids

Probably not many here will know what this one is. Heck for years I thought it was a double end Whitworth bullet. That's what Mac Mason labeled it as in his book.

Later the bullet was identified as being used in the Vandenburgh Volley Gun. They say, they're kind of rare.

On a Roll for Posting Bullets

Here's a deep plug-base Enfield that still has the bullet extractor or wiper still attached to it.

I was able to stabilize the iron wiper from further rust. After 151 years and they're still sleeping together.

The rare 55 base marked Enfield

Found in east Tenn. When I found it I thought "just another fired Enfield"...then I got home and found it had the rarest base marking 55. It's actually the only base marked Enfield I have found.

That is freakin awesome!! Excellent find.

Here is my favorite bullet find. This one is from a Billinghurst & Requa Battery Gun. It has a flat base with 4 rings. The history of the gun itself is very interesting. It was an early rapid-fire gun used during the war. It had twenty-five .58 cal barrels mounted side by side on a 2-wheeled cart. The rounds would fire simultaneously using one single percassion cap. The gun could be elevated for a specific range & could fire at a rate of 175 rounds per minute with a crew of 3 guys. Here's more info on the gun itself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billinghurst_Requa_Battery

We got into a spot near some CS earthworks and dug a handful of these, but all were fired. Then we tried another spot across the field about 200 yds away that was a Union fort site and I found the only dropped one & a carved one in the same area. So the gun was set-up at the fort and fired towards the trench.
