Florida Detecting And Reality

Well, I am enjoying finding good stuff at freshwater swimming holes.... but there are only a few here. Hopefully when the ctx gets here... I can do some more exploring and not worry about ruining my machine! But regardless to "how bad it is" in florida.... I will still hit it 60 hours a week a few times this season. Hopefully around the 4th of July will give many fresh drops.

Man oh man. Not sure this post was started to discourage newcomers, or just depress everyone else. LOL if there's a shred of truth to any of this I really feel for you guys
I have never discouraged anyone from detecting. I have given good advise and respect all comers. You got nothing on me son. My post is my personal experience. Believe it or not, I don't care what you think but do NOT disrespect me. Gain knowledge before you open your mouth. "If there is a shred of truth to this".....Who do you think you are?

Its a great post Greg because its reality... we put a lot of money up front to find what we do and its not all easy like some preach

Thanks Craig for your reply. You are right and all the old timers will tell you the same. I did not post my thread to complain but instead to give a truthful report on the beach conditions where I hunted. If there are others that think I am in a conspiracy or lying, then they can kiss my roundness. Learn before you open your mouth. That is the rule.

Don't watch the girl's,you will do better :lol::lol::lol::lol:
That seems to be the problem. There has been few girls on the beach over 18. Maybe the gold finds correlate to the amount of bikini's over 18 that are on the beach! OMG. I think I am on to something. Thanks SM!

I don't know if our beaches here in Washington state have any hard pan! I've lived here my whole life and dug huge holes as a kid plus been digging razor clams for over 50 years and never found anything but sand and more sand.

I dont believe our conditions are going to discourage many with the means of buying a detector and trying. But those that cant afford it and see it as a way to get out of debt.... as they say.... FOR GET ABOUT IT. Its tuff right now or people are just keeping their finds private. Most places have 1 or 2 beaches close they hunt a little competition and it get hunted out quickly especially if everyone is using the same machine or switching to a PI. I dont think it was ment to depress anyone.... but it is frustrating. If you are in the hobby as a competitive person.... you best take up basketball again because you are not going to enjoy it right now. However.... things change daily out there..... and its the surprises that keep us out there.

IMA, Your post was a 100% right on! I have a few more years in the water and what I have seen it come to with current hunting conditions is one thing I never thought I would see in detecting. Our population doubles with winter snowbirds. I cannot believe how many are now swinging detectors instead of golf clubs. In the "old days" we would find a days worth of parking meter money in the first hour of hunting, now we can't find an hours worth of meter money in a day of hunting.

As we traveled the Snowbirds beaches up north last summer, I could not believe the number of targets. Their beaches were like the beaches of old in Florida! They must all go home and go back to playing golf because they sure don't metal detect. I will say from experience....you DO know what you are talking about for Florida beaches.

Dewcon, you kill me. I am with you coffee is hot at 0500 and engine is running at 0600. I was lucky yesterday on a beach 1 1961 silver dine and a 1927 wheat penny. It was an old beach very seldom used. Dime at the dune and penny at the water.

Stop advertising our beaches

you aren't kidding Ima,,,,,,,the only thing I could add to that it that you WILL have a few hot streaks that come out of nowhere, BUT, you will have long cold streaks that follow,,,,and if anyone thinks they are going to spend a week here and pay their expenses will be sadly mistaken when they arrive,,,beaches will change quickly though,,,,I went to a beach yesterday that over two days time had filled in a good foot or so from these large swells we have been having along the gulf coast,,,,I never set any expectations and consider any finds a bonus to a day out on the beach,,,,and let me tell ya,,,,I love the beach,,,,,:lol:GL HH

Just took my son and Anvilmanco (from Colorado) to Jacksonville beach early in the morning. We saw (4) other MD's, and (3) more were on there way in to start hunting when we left at noon.

We left the beach with a combined total of less than a buck...later that day my kid found $0.80 at CVS and $0.25 at McDonalds.

I have been out 3 times since I returned from the gulf. My local beaches are thick. One has signs up at the dunes and the posts are half buried. Jax beach has the widest dry sand I have seen since I move here and the wood walkways through the dunes are mostly buried. We need a bulldozer rental for a night!

Nice finds TOP.... i run across a few wheat on occasion, best ive found old coin wise ... thou if i took the time you are right there is a location or two that could produce them.

Another issue has just been the swells... they just keep coming. Cant wait for a glassy day.... ill be out there till someone comes and gets me. I hope something drops out there soon.... cause dry sand hunting is getting to hot to do... or should i say for Dew.
