I have not got a clue maybe a lighter or something think it may be napoleonic

If it's not a pocket watch, then it could be a small liquor container.
 
just got a reply off a french site and they all say it is a lighter from world war 1 or 2

Also they had to point out to me that it is not very old but hey
I think its a beauty

and will keep the blighter

Found this one on ebay just now just typed in briquet aigle (lighter eagle) AND UP IT CAME!!

I am really impressed, it must be quite old, I have a WWI trench lighter, Not the copies. but an original and the picture of the one shure looks older, I bet they wanted a chunk for it. smg
 
What do they mean "Not very old?" WW1 and WW2 were years ago!

I think it's a great find! WTG!
 
That is a nice item to find. A chap in our club found one in the UK a month or two ago, and our magazine did an article on them.
They are usually known as "Trench Art".
