Bikers / Holes/ Enforcement

The bikers don't ride on the beach , they visit this year May 7 - 16 this year going on now , and in fall , bring business to Myrtle , stop the blame game , most likely kids digging fox holes on the beach 2 ft or more , people fall in them , get hurt , as long as you fill in your holes when approached by law & can show them your filling in your holes behind you & show them hazards that your cleaning the beach , I don't think they will bother you , shovels no , two things , don't know we're you live , if it's Myrtle , it could be that you want the beaches to yourself , so you make a thread to scare off the compitition, more 4 u , most beaches already have this type of law because kids dig forts in the sand , that's why a 2 foot law exists , nothing new here , us old timers can't be fooled , never did well in Myrtle Beach , not many targets , why because Myrtle is always sanded in , ok for fresh drops , nothing special , my opinion you might have been harassed , than got scared then spooked , if not the other reason , happy hunting , fill in your holes , clean the beaches , talk nice to law , wright now they are not happy campers !

Wrong type of bikes it's the bicycle with batteries.... unfortunately the cops here in Myrtle beach don't know what a scoop is and in there eyes they are shovels. Sorry but I don't have thousands of dollars to get attorney to fight a ticket in court. Myrtle Beach having one lawsuit after the next with there law enforcement. Just YouTube the girl with the thong. Then you'll see what I mean.

Well these may just be an option, PVC.

OK

WE are off subject a bit , but that is a law suit , the way the law was wrote , a thong is not nude , she has a legal suit , now if the law stated no thongs on the beach , she's guilty , Got ya on the electric bikes , we don't have that here . 1st. I have herd of it , I see some of the cops need re- training their however , not defunding  , A scoop IS not a shovel , cover up your holes , clean the beaches of hazards & trash , otherwise use your PVC scoop & play- in fear :laughing:

Where is Tom when we need him!....

Here I am !!

children constantly dig huge holes on the beach

But you know what the difference between those children, and us md'rs is ? Easy : They didn't go ask for clarifications and "can I ?" questions. If they had done so, then THEY TOO would have been told "no". And then THEY TOO could start forums lamenting their lack of freedoms.

See for yourself how this works in the following quote :

I called and asked. They said it's a tool for digging and it metal so it's a shovel.........

See ? Thus shame on those kids for not asking "Can I?" type questions . Tsk Tsk. (Isn't anyone here starting to see the moral of this story ? )

I'd be curious as to how they'd define "shovel" so that it would include a sand scoop.

Pryan67, you're curious how they would define "shovel" ? Easy, you do as Bud-sc did:

I called and asked. ...

Then presto, they'll answer the "pressing question" and say that your scoop is defined as a "shovel". Then ... gee .... aren't ya glad ya asked ?

In fact, I even have a sneaking suspicion of how this rule , that Bud was seeking "clarification on", EVEN GOT STARTED in the first place. Anyone care to take a guess

Me and buddy had gotten squawked all by the local E-bikers. ....

Bud, please take this in the right way : All-too-often, the MINUTE any of us md'rs gets a "stink eye" (like what you describe here in your quote) : Why do we think it's our duty to "run to the local authorities" and "seek to disprove" random gripers ?

This post deals with fluke "scrams". But the SAME EXACT PSYCHOLOGY applies for random fluke "stink eyes". And I highly suggest you read this carefully, and take it to heart :

This whole post is quite revealing. And just goes to show what I've been harping on over and over : It's as if we md'rs can be our own worst enemies. And we perpetually get laws written to "address our pressing issues". That we ourselves went and drew a giant bullseye on ourselves. And then sit around lamenting our lack of freedoms.

When are we going to wake and see that the very origin of these laws is "WE OURSELVES" ?

And no ... it wasn't "because of holes". Do you *really* think that anyone ever gave 2 sh#ts about holes on the beach ? Or plastic vs metal shovels, or scoops vs shovels, or 2 ft. vs 1 ft. etc... ? OF COURSE NOT. Thus why the rules that seem to suggest they seem to "care" now ? Easy : We became the victims of "no one cared UNTIL you asked" syndrome. Or went and made stinks seeking clarification".

Sheesh. For anyone that doubts this origin/evolution of laws, here it is for you. In black and white , in this post and "new law"

I agree 100%... Scoop isn't a shovel but they still claim if it's a tool for digging made of metal it's a shovel in there eyes. As my dad used to say " You can't argue with stupid". But back to the girl which I forgot to add she was called on by someone who lives near the "Golden mile" which are all rich people stay. Seem thing happened to metal detecting also. They want to end it so they can ride there electric bicycles on the beach with no fear of fallen off there bike.

Good point about something used for digging made of metal being a shovel. So the bottom of the beach umbrella I have that is made of metal and "digs" into the sand as I turn it is also a shovel. And the post hole diggers that the crew of hotels use to put beach umbrellas in are shovels as well.

hmmm..I bet we could find all SORTS of "shovels" using that definition.

But you're right about arguing with stupid. I know that I would fight it though if I got a ticket for using a scoop.

And now, worse yet, guess what happens when other md'rs, in other location around the USA, read a post and a "scary dire link" to a "new rule", in some other place ? Here's what happens: No matter HOW remote, no matter HOW far away & removed it is, they will tend to : "Pick up the phone and call their local authorities" and ask "Can I ?" type questions. After all, they just read the scary post. And .... gee, they want to "make sure". And after all, you "can't be too safe", eh ? And after all, there "might be a rule". Thus gee.... you 'better call to make sure", eh ?

And then presto, is anyone seeing the self-fulfilling vicious loop ? Ie.: Those inquiries are met with "princely decisions", thus leading to more "dire sounding posts", thus leading to more skittish people swatting hornets nests. A giant self-fulfilling vicious loop.

Why can't md'rs just GROW A SET and go out md'ing ? Ssseeehhh

Guys, this totally reminds me of a law or rule , that resulted on a particular city-beach, in southern CA, after a tragic situation :

Some kids were digging "tunnels" in the moist firm sand . Ie.: sand forts or whatever. One of the kids was tunneling into their sand crater, and .... the tunnel collapsed on him. His fellow little kids were just to young and immature to realize what was going on. By the time any adults wised up to what had happened, and by the time the little kid was dug out of the sand, it was too late. He had suffocated.

Does anyone remember this story ? It happened on one of the beaches in So. CA that was city administered (versus state beach, etc...). So the city, in response to this tragic accident, made the following new rule for their beach: "No digging in the sand".

I forget exactly how the rule was worded. Eg.: If it gave "# of feet" or "metal vs plastic shovel", or whatever.

But here's the odd-thing that happened next: Later on, when some md'rs got wind of this new rule, they thought: "Oh no, we can't detect anymore. Because, after all, there's a rule that forbids digging" .

Ok, seriously now folks : Can't you tell, from the back-story on this, that it had NOTHING TO DO with md'ing, and the little divots we make ?? But guess what the "fastest way" is to make it loop in us md'rs too ? Simple: Go seeking clarifications. Because, seriously : Put yourself in their shoes: Do you REALLY think they want to sit around splitting hairs saying how many inches deep is ok, vs not ok ? OF COURSE NOT. So they just make it simple and say "no digging".

Yet the reality is, that if persons had continued to detect and dig on that So. CA beach, no one would have cared less (since the intent of the law is totally different).

So it's the same for Bud's story : Why couldn't Bud have just gone detecting, since he KNOWS he won't go 2 ft. deep ? And since he KNOWS that a "scoop is not a shovel" ? By swatting hornet's nests, well now, gee, guess what ? Now you'll find persons who all-of-the-sudden "care" now. Well, sure, and guess WHY THEY CARE ? Yup, you guessed it .

The scoop song, by Metal Detecto (to the tune of I'm the happiest Christmas tree)

OH, I'm the happiest detectorist,

Using scoops and beep beep beep,

Oh you'll see me happily

with a ho ho ho hee hee!

Everything was jingle, everything was nice,

Until that grouch came and said:

You're digging with a shovel, that will not suffice!

I'm the happiest detectorist,

Ho Ho ho, hee hee hee,

Now I'm going to put it simply, that grouch is such a (Bleep)!

We are proud of our equipment,

With T-rex, Sunspot too~

But we will not stick with PVC,

We avoid it like the flu!!

AND I'll STICK WITH METAL, SUCKS FOR YOUUUU!!!
