Detecting in the woods

Can't agree more with the ticks. I got bit in 2018 while detecting and it led to lyme disease. One of the worst ordeals for almost a year, definitely do not recommend. It hasn't kept me out of the woods but I do take better precautions.

I can relate to your experience that Lyme is NOT fun, thankfully mine was diagnosed and treated soon enough afterwards that it was not as bad as it might had been.

Besides making you feel REALLY bad, it saps your energy to where you don't even want to get out of bed.

I had it many years ago, spotted a tick on my left side under the arm, went to the doctors to be tested very soon after.

Fortunately the doctor caught mine early and immediately started 2 weeks of antibiotics, but it still took months before I felt pretty much normal again, part of that recuperation was recuperating from the side effects of the antibiotic itself, as the antibiotic destroyed the good bacteria in my digestive system and I needed to take a powerful prescription probiotic (VSL3) for a couple months to help restore my digestive system back to normal.

As you know Gary it's a horrible disease. I was bit in may and in early August I had flu like symptoms. I was given an antibiotic for 3 days and felt a bit better. Soon after I felt progressively worse and in late September I woke up with bells palsey, which was pretty terrible. I went back to the doctor and had a lyme test which came back negative. Over the next few months I steadily went down hill with aches and pains, loss of appetite, no energy it was terrible. I have an incurable case of non hodgkin's and I can tell you lyme is 10 times worse. Finally the following april I finally convinced my doctor to prescribe an antibiotic for lyme. After taking it for a few days I started to feel better and by the time a month went by I was feeling about normal. I can honestly say it was about 8 months of suffering. I luckily don't seem to have any lasting effects, and I hope you're the same.

Wow, as bad as mine felt it was no comparison to what you went thru and for how long !

Very glad you had no lasting effecting effects, thankfully I haven't either, but I am now even more extra careful than before to check for ticks after anytime I have been in a forest area (we have forest area off the edge of some of our property) I also have a wide brim hat and wear long sleeves and tuck my pants legs into my socks when in such areas.

I think it does make a difference in the severity if people can find out very soon after being bit and getting immediate treatment.

Sawyer Permethrin Insect Repellent for Clothing, Gear & Tents

this is good on dogs but it will kill cats so watch it

When I'm going out to the woods I spray my socks & knee down on my pants when I go to bed. I almost ever get ticks or chiggers if I do that.

Walmart has it

I worked in Oregon a few years back in 70's and I seen a "few" ticks but back to Missouri I almost forgot haw bad they are LOL

Yea! If ticks had wings, they'd be our state bird!
