Can we metal detect on national parks if there is a Government shutdown?

Can you exceed the speed limit if you know for a fact that there is no enforcement on a given day ? OF COURSE NOT. The speed limit is still the speed limit. That's why no one fudges the speed limit when they see they're all alone on a lonely stretch of road, right ?

Right!!

Um, wait... What?

What do you think?

National park law enforcement are considered essential employees, just like the US military, federal wildland firefighters and those that protect life and property. They must report like it was a typical day with The difference being instead of collecting a paycheck she/he receives an IOU from Uncle Sam. So yes you can detect a national Park during a government shutdown but make sure you report back to us on how it went. Ranger Rick already is a bit peeved because IOUs can't pay the bills or buy groceries and now someone is defacing and trespassing on lands that have been temporarily placed off limits. Best of luck!

I like to bike and hike in the nearby Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore park which is about 15 miles across covering Porter and Lake Counties in Indiana. There are multiple parking areas throughout it and everytime we have one of these government shutdowns, the first thing the Feds do is close off all the parking lots which makes it a real hassle to go there. Since the park encompasses highways, roads and beaches you can go there but you just can't park there or use any restrooms which remain locked up. I usually park in a public place outside the boundary and go in. As for MDing there that's never allowed so no effect on that.
