Cache hunting with a divining rod.....

Pfft skeptics!

Say what you will about dowsing but I can say without any doubt I found a 1944 walking liberty half in the middle of a field with 2 bent coat hangers.

Back in the 80's a hunting buddy and I were reading our monthly metal detecting mags, which always had a section on dowsing, and decided to give it a try. It told how to use 2 coat hangers bent in the shape of an L. We were at an apartment complex and testing pointed out in an open field just north of the apartments. I grabbed my detector and we headed out in the field. About midway in the center I got a hit on my detector and when I looked down there was the walking liberty sticking halfway out of the dirt. My buddy had just walked over it.

Yes, finding that half was probably just plain luck, but there is no doubt in my mind I never would have walked that field to that half had the coat hangers pointed me in that direction. For this reason I can say without any doubt I owe finding that walker to dowsing. In this case it worked plain and simple. Could I repeat it? Not very likely. Does this convince me dowsing doesn't work? Not in the least bit, and I don't care what science says, I owe finding that walker to dowsing pure and simple.

I've always been a little embarrassed to admit that I can dowse because so many are so vehemently negative about the subject, and will just mark one down as plain crazy for even discussing it. I can't begin to explain how or why it works, it just does for some.

My two methods are bent coat hangers or a metal rod. The metal rod will bob like was mentioned in earlier posts. I've never tried to look for anything but water pipes, but I can say without a doubt that it works. Once I even found a friend's water main using a closed metal frame umbrella because we didn't have a metal rod handy.

A freind in Reno owns a prospecting shop there and was asked to locate pipes and lines to a shop down the road, He agreed to do it in exchange for mechanics work from the other shop owner. He went down with two coat hangers and marked the watter pipes drains and cable going to the property. A few hours later he saw the professional locator going there. The pro with all his equipment just painted over my freinds lines and left. When he ask why the other shop owner said he thought he was messing with him out there with coat hangers. He still got the free work beacuse he was right.
Go figure!!!

Water witching is one thing... finding treasure is another. If it were that easy to find gold, people would be out with backhoes digging every day of the year instead of trying to sell outrageously expensive pieces of junk with junk science backing it.

I have to agree from my perspective. I've never been able to find anything more than water pipes. It would be awesome if I could find a gold vein or even a silver coin in a field, but I've never tried and I wouldn't even know where to start...any tips from other dowsers out there?

actually

i was using dowsing rods today. it was sorta odd, i was trying to find silver coins with it. It first took me to a silver soda can deep in the woods. I sorta gave up on it and started wandering around with my detector. about 100 feet away though i found a silver merc !!! mayb dowsing rods are a good start to a treasure hunt? i was using the two bent rods, i made mine out of coat hangers. Ive also used pencils as pinpointers after locating a treasure first with a detector , worked spot on!

Some thoughts ...

Finding a water line - okay I can handle that. Big object, lots of water in it ... close range there could be some scientific way to prove this.

Finding a body of water underground - I can handle this as well.

Remember back to my all of my classes I took - majored in Chemistry - from basic Chemistry to physics to so many long hours reading on topics well above my head with toothpicks under my eye lids for support. Large bodies might give off enough of an attraction to make rods move. Toss a baseball into the air and it does not affect the earth very much. If you could toss a large enough object into the air from the ground - talking about a massive object - it could affect the earth. The moon which is a long ways away affects are earth ... tides. So on a smaller scale I can deal with it.

But as for using divining rods to find coins ... this I'm extremely skeptical about and would have to see someone do it for a period of time before I could buy into it. A merc dime is small ... a nickel is small ... heck even a silver dollar in comparison to all things that lay around it is small.

Just my rambling thoughts.

I fully agree I dont think the rods them self are capable of finding cions by their self. But in defence of my purchase and maybe it is junk sceince. If a item like say a dime was putting off a radio signal than it might be able to be picked up by say a antena which is in effect what the dowsing rods are. Molecular resonation is a proven scientific fact and most of us wear a small resonator on our hands its called a quarts watch. Every mineral has its own frequency that causes it to resonate and the byproduct of this resonation is a harmonic radio signal. The resonation is so constant you can keep time off it. Im still not convinced that the machine I have is really functioning in this capacity. I would love to have someone put it on a ocillascope and test it to see if its doing anything at all. But it seems to work and I am not moving the rods and friends who try it are shocked when the rods move as they are scepticle as well. One freind threw the rods down and said I DONT KNOW WHATS MAKING THOSE MOVE BUT IT FREAKS ME OUT. I would love to have anyone who wants to check it out. I will more than willingly set up for anyone who is around this area as I wouldnt expect people to travel just for this. My goal would not be to prove dowsing as this can not be done but to get other opinions and to see what even the most scepticle do when those rods move and their not doing it. The only success I have had with it is in controlled tests and picking a spot to dredge. I have followed other signals but seems to always be something in my way like private land or the signal is five feet down under a huge tree or under a lava cap. Places I cant access and lets face it hoards of loot are not just everywhere. You have to be lucky just be close enough to be in range. Im not trying to argue with anyone so keep in mind my post is full of ifs and maybes and supposed toos. And every thing is open to debate. Thats what makes our country great.

godigit1,

That makes me wonder if that's why the man in the newpaper article (post #1)
used silver on the end of his rod in order to locate the silver coins:?:.

He said something about the small piece of silver would be attracted to the large cache of silver.

Kind of sounds like he was saying the same thing doesn't it?

I made a Loaded Wand out of 1" copper pipe and two caps.
Soldered a brass flexable rod to one cap.
Curled 7 wraps and soldered a brass pointer on it.

Put a gold ring, silver coin inside it.
Carry it hunting and hold it out once in awhile.
If used right, it always points to the goodies.

Let us know how it works out for you....

No not at all I think hes a Quack! Ive heard of dowsers putting gold or the item in their mouth or on the stick like in post #1, Or using their brains as discriminators . But this is different in that it is combining proven sceince and dowsing rods. By use of the resonator you are supposedly charging the ground with the frequency of the mineral sought after and it then puts off a resonance. That is what is suposed to cause the rods to react in this situation. What I wish was different was the recovery method. Ive been trying to find a way to remove the rods and human interaction away from the recovery method but so far nothing. Ive tried frequency finders but the range of the counters that I have had access to is not broad enuff. I am not a scientest and do not claim to have the answers.
If anything I only have more questions. But like I said anyone is welcome to come check this thing out. I think it willl blow some minds. Thats where I bow out with this thread. PEACE OUT!!!!

Seems to contradict itself but then again I am a skeptic concerning all kinds of pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo.

The Wand works fine for me because,
1) I Programed my Wand
2) I ask yes/no questions or direction

While water hunting with the boat, it tipped to the right.
I almost pulled the boat up on top of a womans gold band.

At the Park, it'll point, and that's the direction I go.
I find the normal things that everybody else does.

Sometimes everything is so distracting, I can't focus.
Then it does act like a piece of pipe and a coiled wire.

It's a small Wand I carry in my bag while out hunting.
I think it's alot of fun, once you understand it.

OH I am going to stop being polite. This is the friendly METAL DETECTOR FORUM ...moderators please make the nutjobs go away. If you cant handle real science you do not belong here. If you want the Bunga-Bunga , good mojo sweet lucky Ju-Ju metal detector forum...go start it...dont bring it here!

Please, no ad hominems. Challenge the science (or pseudo science) behind it, without insulting the person.
