Breaking Beach News !

We didn't have enough test kits to test the living let alone the dead which are literally piling up in U-Haul trucks at the moment. Only recently have kit makers and labs improved their testing capabilities. New York is/was at the epicenter of this pandemic after all and your link LOS3R just proves how New York was able to get their #'s flattened.

Lets just see where the #'s go now that hospitals and local testing facilities finally have the capacity to test just about everyone suspected of being infected.

I'll be the first to admit I was naive about this disease and buy a "theoretical"
beer to any/all but I'm afraid we're looking at the new normal.
Expect to see a second wave of infections and a resurgence of deaths as we open the economy up. Hopefully our pharm/science community can mass produce an effective immunization in record speed but I have my doubts there as well.

By effective immunization. Do you mean a vaccine. No thanks. The FDA Released paperwork in 2018 I think stating that every vaccine ever given contained Mutagens and carcinogens. I for one don’t want my future children or their children to be forced to vaccinate.

Carson, you are entitled to your beliefs and “theories”, but tread lightly and follow Forum Rules.

This thread is about beach closings... stop posting all this other nonsense on here.. I have deleted a bunch.. if we have to continue deleting this stuff... the thread will get shut down.

The last time the wife and I sunbathed in NJ (Cape May) we were sqeezed in between many other blankets and umbrellas. While i don't see the beaches getting that crowded i have to wonder if personal space will be respected. Myself....i have no problem telling people to back off. But then again it is supposed to be relaxing, and I imagine anything but that. Especially little kids. They just don't know the situation. They are little plague carriers, and they are everywhere. Plus we stayed in a hotel room and ate every meal out. Neither of which I see myself doing for quite a while. I see summer vacation being very simple this year. By the end of summer I sure will have a head of hair.

Personal freedoms are a side effect of sacrifices. This IS the greatest nation on earth because of the foundation laid by those elderly service men/women, builders & business entrepenuers etc. To simply cast them aside as collateral damage for the sake of herd immunity?! We owe them much more...we owe them everything!

This selfish, self centered attitude of the "my rights are infringed upon" need to come spend a day in my shoes at the hospital. This is NOT the flu!

Well said and I couldn’t agree more!

Here's my take on closing beaches in my state of RI. As of yesterday, we had a total of 266 deaths from the virus. Sounds bad, until they mentioned that 78% of those deaths were people in nursing homes! Simple math tells me that only 59 people have died here that were not in nursing home care. Since we have over ONE MILLION people living in the state, that means the current odds of dying from this virus in RI is 1 in 16,949! And of course, that means they've shut down the state over 59 deaths, which seems ridiculous to me.

Would there have been many more deaths if we did nothing? Possibly, but there's no evidence to support that theory. The number of new cases here seems to go up and down, so why hasn't this lockdown nonsense slowed the progress of the infection rate? Because it's going to do what the flu does every year. Some people will get it, some will not. Some will die from it and others will recover. That's the way it is with all airborne diseases. Sitting at home or going out with a cloth over your face ain't gonna save you. Just my take on the current situation...

You obviously have no informed OR educated clue as to the mechanism of droplet-borne (and COVID is droplet-borne, NOT airborne) disease transmission works. Instead of facebook, go read an actual medical textbook.

Furthermore, your simplistic and naive attempt at calculating the OR (or odds risk) of dying from COVID is not as straightforward as you would like to make it seem. Your math inherently assumes that everyone is on an even playing field in terms of their hypothetical pre-infection state of health. Instead, you must also factor in Rhode Island's 30% obesity rate, those with serious respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, those who are diabetic, and other serious chronic diseases and then you will arrive at the true OR for COVID-associated death.

How about we ALL stick to metal detecting and our respective day jobs, and let the trained medical professionals do theirs?

We have a problem here that not enough people have caught the virus. So we must remain isolated from the world until a vaccine is found

Cmon guys , please try to stay on topic so they don't close this thread. It's about beach closings and what's going on here in So.Cal. A little covid ok , but don't totally attack each other. Share your FACTS or EXPERIENCES on what's happening at your beaches.

:agreed:

KOB, I was trying to play nice and give my opinion on the subject, but I won't be insulted by anyone, especially by him. He likes to play board bully. That's why so many of his posts are removed here. The comment above insulting me should be removed as well.

First, I think you have me mistaken for someone else. Second, I was not insulting you, I was simply taking issue with erroneous information regarding the topic at hand. Third, my final point of my previous post was "let's go back to talking about metal detecting and keep things frosty". Either way, I shall once again remove myself from any further COVID discussions.

Nothing erroneous with my numbers. I was pointing out how silly it is for my governor to close all our beaches over 59 deaths. That's the bottom line. If you're afraid to go out, that's your choice. But closing the beaches to one million people and not giving them a choice is unacceptable (and unconstitutional).

I know you weren't insulting me. I of all people am guilty of getting off track on threads. Just wanting to keep this topic live is all ! I think there are more other specific threads on the virus for more detailed info , numbers, etc. Which I do like...

Unless something changes dramatically there will be very few depositors at the beaches where i hunt. The east coast especially Jersey has been hit hard by the virus. Jersey beaches are the closest for me. Any other state requires planning and staying overnight. As i said in a prior post I have no desire to be part of the tourist scene at all. The detector will stay in the closet. Local hunters should have the beaches to themselves for a while. But as I said.....the seeding of recent drops looks bad. Old gold? For a few that know where it is.

I’m not sure if it’s a matter of being afraid. To me it’s just being responsible. I wouldn’t want to infect anyone because I was too cavalier about being safe for myself, family and others.
