We didn't have enough test kits to test the living let alone the dead which are literally piling up in U-Haul trucks at the moment. Only recently have kit makers and labs improved their testing capabilities. New York is/was at the epicenter of this pandemic after all and your link LOS3R just proves how New York was able to get their #'s flattened.
Lets just see where the #'s go now that hospitals and local testing facilities finally have the capacity to test just about everyone suspected of being infected.
I'll be the first to admit I was naive about this disease and buy a "theoretical"
beer to any/all but I'm afraid we're looking at the new normal.
Expect to see a second wave of infections and a resurgence of deaths as we open the economy up. Hopefully our pharm/science community can mass produce an effective immunization in record speed but I have my doubts there as well.
