AT Pro coils

Although I don't have one, the NEL coils are wound to be specifically compatible with the AT Pro OR the AT Gold, but not both. You have to specify when you order.

Contrast that to Garrett's offering which is advertised to work on both machines. That tells me the stock AT PRO/Gold coils are wound to be a compromise between the two machines different operating frequencies with slightly degraded performance.

I may have to try out the NEL sharpshooter which would be similar to the 5x8 in size.

I had the ATP and the ATG at the same time and the coils are interchangeable didn't notice any degradation between the two stock coils using them on either machine and also air tested to compare just for fun.

Haven't used the stock since getting the 5x8. For trash and water it rocks. The sniper is too specific a coil. Get a cool that fits where you hunt, trash=5x8, fields=big NEL

I have been running the stock coil this spring because it gets more depth... I hardly ever run the stock coil, its just that this one park, all the targets are really deep..

I was hunting there a couple days ago with member Fortune Finder and he had the 5x8 on... I had him check about a half dozen of my deeper targets and his machine did not pick up anything that would be considered a valid target....

I'll be switching back to the 5x8 for the remainder of the season soon though... I kill with it in the heavy iron infested Lake Erie swimming areas...

The more I use the sniper coil the more I'm impressed with it. It hits 5-6 dimes and the tone roll is incredible especially on rusty bits of iron that usually false with the 5x8. If you really want to get in between the trash and pull some good targets that everyone else has missed trust me you need to get it. If cherry picking of the top is more your style then your probably wasting money by buying it. But if you like hunting trashy areas digging sketchy signals then buy it for sure. But I would give priority to the 5x8 get it for sure then the sniper

The 5x8 is definately the best all around coil and is much better than the stock coil in trashy sites. When the trash is REALLY bad though the smaller sniper coil beats the 5x8 , atleast from my experience with it on the ace 250 I had. In really trashy sites my ace with the sniper did much better than my ATP with the 5x8. Every time you go down to a smaller coil though you lose a little depth , thankfully not a whole lot but you do lose some. But if depth is what you are worried about , even with the larger coil , if there is a lot of trash then you usually wont be able to take full advantage of its depth potential anyway since the coil will only see as deep as the shallowest metal target under it. You do trade some depth for target seperation when you use the smaller coil "technically" , but if there is a lot of trash then depth is really not an issue anyway. I would rather have target seperation and less masking ,..... than a larger coil capable of more depth but half blind due to lack of seperation.

I agree, I put the 5x8 on an never looked back. Don't feel the need for anything else. :)

I have 2 ATPs and one has the stock and the second has the 5X8. ( I hate changing coils...). I use both. But once you learn the machine you can use the stock in trashy areas too. You just have to control your swinging.

Today I was in a fairly clean field and with the stock coil I found about $4 in and hour and a half. Tonight I was on a fairly trashy field and found $3.43 in an hour. Sunday I spent and hour on that same field and found $2.87 and a silver ring.

I have about the same results with the 5X8. It's just a question of which one I grab.

You can use the stock coil in trashy areas too , but because of the larger footprint and increased possibility of masking , you may not even know what you are missing ;) It dont matter much how you swing the coil , its still likely to "hide" some nice targets among the trash.

I use the stock coil the 5x8 and the sniper coil. There is not one coil that will do everything. People that believe one coil does it all, leave coins and jewelry for other people to find.

The 5x8 coil makes the AT Pro a different machine, especially in an area where there is a lot of stuff in the ground. It is noticeably lighter and makes it much easier/nicer to swing. However, when I am in a larger area with relatively quiet ground, I will have the big coil on it.

I love the feel of the 5x8 but I've got some tot lots with wood chips a foot deep or more. The 5x8 just won't get to the bottom. Love the coverage of the 8.5x11 and sensitivity to small gold seems to be just as good as the 5x8.

It isn't, I know for sure...

Last season I had small piece of chain I took off a bracelet for testing and set it on top of the grass.. Passed over it with my big coil a coupe times, looked away, and I lost it... It was right there, but I couldn't see it, it had fallen down into the grass/thatch and the big coil could not hit on it... I spent an hour trying to find it, neither the large coil, the Garrett PP, nor the Centech could pick it up...

Then I switched to my smaller coil and it called it out like a snitch in a prison yard...

It was a piece off of this bracelet...

The big coil almost has to be touching it, the small coil picked it up at about 2.5 inches....
