This was not dug. A friend gave it to me. It is stamped Legitimus Collins & Co. Made in U.S.A. So far I have found out that they were made in the 40's. Most have a date on them but mine does not. Anyone know where I can find out at least what year this one would be dated to? The blade is 25" long, overall length including the handle is 31".

Not a real expert on these but I have owned a few. I don't believe the handle to be original. It may be, but if mil issue definitely doesn't look right. The stamp I believe is WW2 era. Upon examining your photos I don't believe it is mil issue so it may be the correct handle. All the US machetes I have owned are stamped U.S. The military ones were dated, but the civilian ones may not have been (machetes aren't my expertise). Not saying it couldn't have been used in the war as at times certain units or individual soldiers went around government chains and purchased their own equipment. If I remember correctly in WW2 they did a drive for people to donate their personal hunting knives for use in the war for the troops. Same as what the Navy did in WW1 with "Eyes For The Navy." Very nice machete though! Either way!
