Well hit one of my fav spots over weekend- i have absolutely hammered this area with excal
so if i choose to use it- i hardly find anything there anymore- i have had some success with the Nox
Here knowing things have to be buried deep! Finding swim buckles upwards of 1.5 ft & beyond!
So an experiment with Manticore- dedicated 3 hrs underwater
So here are the results... I'm underwater for about 30 min not finding much & getting used to buoyancy
issues, now granted i have around 38 lbs of lead on! in early days i was crazy enough to use 54lbs!
thankfully i don't do that anymore - NOT needed! & very risky!!
but anyone who has used a drysuit will tell ya
big air pockets & due to cold water needed a little air in the suit to stay warm!!
anyway, after about 45 min i get a signal nice low tone- so i'm digging a hole about 1.5ft deep- i am digging - fanning - digging some more
finally i get to the target it is encrusted black- war nickel? nope a buffalo
rubbed the black, buffalo showed right thru.. so i check this deep hole which i widened some to even get to the buffalo
* another target - much lower tone - lower number - can't see a damn thing due to stirring up the water!!
so i'm gently trying to clear the water to see the target- i catch the unmistakable glimpse of gold!
i can only see the very edge of it- i gently fan & recognize immediately what it is ... dental bridge -GOLD!!
only the 2nd one i have ever found & they both came from here... almost used Go Pro before dive & i'm like, no
you have way too much other equipment to worry about! that would have been a hell of a video!
so after that i found 5 jefferson nickels- they were only 1960's why are they important??
why? because they were buried at a min of 1.5ft!! we know that the gold is sitting below that!!
here are the pics with NO video! damn!
top small set 3.3g - bottom set 8.7g found a few yrs back
this set holds 22k then slowly fades prob 21easily holds 18k acid
Nox prob would have hit it too- The seasoned pro's using all metal with excal prob hit that buffalo too
however when you are underwater & your listening in between breathing its much more difficult!
Top Set Found over weekend!
other set a few years back
last photo a chain what i thought was gold- old brass
as soon as i picked it up knew it wasn't gold
few yrs ago - interesting photo though
GL out there!

Those bridges are kinda scaring me a little bit...... :)

Great gold finds. Found me a grill last week, looks like a 10k find. Keep the photos coming!
Dive pitch black water
You won’t scare easily after
LoL It’s funny wife doesn’t like them either they are favorites of mine

Everyone throw those dental 🦷 bridges back
I’ll take them all. lol
High kt gold - soft = easy loss
Bad for them I’m sure they cost them a lot even back then
These are very old!!

Good job on the grill
Post it
Like to see a pic

I wear a glove on my left hand when I detect, and that would be a left handed retrieval. The only way someone could lose their chompers is if they got slugged in the jaw. I can't imagine someone "losing" their bridge unless they were running for their life. Different for sure, keep swinging.

Or if they were diving in the water
Hitting water hard
As was right where I found them
Old dive platform
Deep water

Being very old I’m sure they didn’t secure them as well back then
As I’m certainly not the only one who has found them

This will give anyone interested
Insight
On these finds
How they fall out etc
turns out additional decay is why they fall out so easily

i didn't know what went down- u know mark? Yes, I hunted Chicago a few times. Meet him and a few others. When I was doing ring daddy he accused me sand bagging. I was sand bagging but not because of him, had a few locals that would look for me when I posted, so I held off posting till fall, and he got pissed about and said I should have PM..ed him and informed him what I was doing?

Later, I believe mark was arrested, if he was telling the truth in a email he sent me.

crazy mark giving u drama too, Yep, several emails and a interesting FB post.. One he said he was going to send all of his buddies here to hunt out the spots I was hitting.. haha .. I told him send them!.. and you know me, I saved ever email and crazy thing he sent.

have u ever found any dental bridges in all those beaches u hit? Not many, maybe 4? Just found a small (single) one a few weeks ago, wish my silver came out like yours.. terrible crusty here

I watch all his vids. Even the one where he shows you how to properly clean a coin by putting some Copenhagen on it and grinding the mess out of it.:laughing:

"One of his first videos with the bridge and the tip of a building gave away the exact location took me and my buddy Mike about 10 minutes to track it down"

i found that one very quickly- bridge gave it away - not sure if it was the same one
but i found the other too- a few min on a map confirm that - just by a couple clues- never hunted any of them- as i said he made some mistakes on those videos "too much info" - never hunted any chicago area beaches new or old
actually once i don't really count it - family was with & it was like 45 min hunt downtown local beach
like the pic!
my silv will cookie coat - any advice as to preserve more of the silv?? carefully obviously
lol..

absolutely!! - if i had local competition i would do the same!
my spots are scattered - not by exact choice - so no competition
never see anyone!!
oh yeah except when a land owner -calls cops because i am in "their lake"
it's public!
then i show the trash - broken bottles - etc.. usually calms most down
