Hmmmm, ran into this the other day, the field had just been aerated... with what appear to be 1inch wide plugs, about 4+ inches deep. Now, for the question, will this make detecting that field better, or worse? I am divided... I imagine it will create tons of slaw... plus I pulled a ring out that was at about the 5 inch mark, bent to heck, I almost threw it away (hunted at night) as I looked at it, and with the dirt and all, looked almost like golden foil... but then I started to knock some of the dirt off and noticed a sapphire... although the ring was pretty crushed... and a twin sapphire was missing, else I would have searched the hole a bit more looking for the missing second one... about 3/4 of a carat in size. Bummer, one of the downsides to night hunting... even with a flashlight, can't always see what you want.

All that to say, is an aerated field better or worse?

Thanks!

No expert here as I hunt mostly the beach, but my gut tells me it would be better. What do others say??

I'm guessing it would be easier to hunt. Also, you may want to consider investing in a head lamp. You can buy an inexpensive one at WalMart. This will free up your hands too...

Good luck & HH!

Dont think it would make much differance other than killin the coins. As far as night hunting goes. I do a lot and use a LED headlamp. Plenty of power to light up where you want and as stated above keeps your hands free. WOLF
