I wasn't really planning on relic hunting today. Took my dog into the woods. He decided he wanted to go off trail and I obliged. Wound up in a ravine near a roadway and found some glass. I did have my detecting gloves with me but no tools... And not a lot of time because the sun was going down.
So I scratched at the ground with a sharp rock! I had to use the screwdriver/bottle opener on my swiss army knife to dig the Atlas jar out from between some rocks. Needless to say, next time I go back I will be more prepared.
I really didn't think that little plate was an actual 1913 license plate. It's very heavy and the front (the part that isn't rusted that is) seems in remarkably good shape for 1913... However, some googling revealed that they made 'em that small in Michigan in 1913 and the face is porcelain. And man people ask a lot for a 4 digit 1913 plate on Ebay! ...I know, you can ask however much you want on ebay...
Haven't figured out what the little jar with the character embossed on the front is yet. And the other side of the compact reads "red poppy" for the color (and no it won't open without prying it apart; probably has 3 gold coins in it but I will never know....).
