I just saw that Garrett has released special editions of their AT Max and Ace Apex metal detectors. They're special Jase Robertson camo editions. The best news is that with the purchase of one of these detectors you get a Jase Robertson duck call. Has their marketing team run out of good ideas? :?:

No I think the marketing department is doing just fine. The engineering & R&D department could have some new engineers to help them bring out something competitive to the Equinox 800, the XP Deus II and the Legend. Use an AT Pro for 3 years, but it is time for some new competitive hardware from a once great detector company.

Sometimes family owned companies lose focus when a founder passes away. I have seen that in more than a few great family owned businesses over the past 20 years.

I agree with Maxxkatt, it’s marketing brilliance!! When guys lose their camoed detectors in the long grass, they’ll have to buy another one to go find it…they can literally double their detector sales!!

I’m not a reality TV guy by any stretch, and I honestly had to Google “Jase Robertson” to find out who the heck he was…I gotta admit, I’m scratching my head a bit to try and figure out what duck hunting has to do with metal detectors, but maybe I’m missing something from the TV show?? :?: And a duck call?? I suppose someone could draw an entourage of ducks to their location to celebrate each silver coin find?? Or maybe every time they dig a Zincoln, they can let out a duck quack in frustration?? What they needed to include is some kind of “gold call” and you could blow away on that while you swing through a permission!

In all seriousness, this kind of celebrity tie in where there is no real logical relationship between the two always makes me shrug my shoulders and roll my eyes. To me it really cheapens the brand and puts out an “As Seen On TV” kind of vibe. Kind of makes it look like Garrett has “jumped the shark”, which is a true shame.

Jase is actually into metal detecting also. He has a youtube channel and I have seen some of his videos. It makes sense that Garrett would use his popularity to promote it's products.

Ah, I see…I stand corrected then. Still, having a celebrity “signature” on my machine isn’t exactly a big draw for me, personally…I’m the guy that makes dealerships remove all their labeling from a car before I’ll buy it from them. But I realize that kind of celebrity tie-in has a certain appeal to some folks.

In my opinion, the detector that gets bought because it has Jace Robertson’s signature on it has an extremely high probability of being a closet queen - used once or twice, then never sees the light of day again. It smacks of a department store quality detector move - looking for a sales gimmick over innovation. I would rather see Garrett focus their energy and budget on developing innovative features or new offerings to draw in new customers who are also likely to stay in the hobby and drive future sales, rather than one-off sales gimmicks.

It has been a year since the Ace Apex came out. I'm really surprised they aren't announcing a higher end Apex.

Maybe they're trying to catch up with Tesoro

Yeah, I don't get the whole "celebrity endorsement" thing, especially when it comes a bunch who turned "redneck" for a paycheck.

There's a reason Uncle Si's wife wanted nothing to do with the show.

My Simplex+ has a goose call built into it. If you have ever heard its "honk, honk" signals you would understand.

So would most of us. So what does that tell you about Garrett's progress in their R&D activities as of late?

Although, I could be wrong. Garrett is a great marketing company, if nothing else. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with this marketing move. But I can't stop thinking that it's a desperation move...

I seem to remember a Robertson camo detector from Fisher if I'm not mistaken. How'd that work out?

Perhaps.

I think they're now owned by a private equity firm or something.

After Stu Auerbach died his son took over the company and about a month later it was in the hands of an investment company located in Tennessee. They immediately closed the Florida showroom and museum. I'm not sure if they ever re-opened either of them. Go to their website and they always have an enormous list of items that are out of stock and the outs began long before the current supply chain issues popped up.

Garrett is the kings if gimmicks..
Next they will make the iron tone a quack quack...lol (for those who remember Garrett's talking machine)

Hate to say it unless they plan on making most sales on people just jumping into diggin, I think they'd be better off doing sone more R&D...
How long are people gonna keep spending 600 bucks on the apex and at series....I dont understand it

I think a lot of Yanks buy Garrett because it's American and it is a familiar and comfortable name with history behind it....
