Whites Bullseye TRX $159.95

Test

It seems to get better depth, but is depth really a concern, in a pointer, if so the Pistol Probe runs away with it, I noticed I like the Garrett sound better, more pleasing to the ear ,than the higher pitch TRX, not cutting this pointer down cause the long haul of reviews will determine weather this pointer is worth the 32.00 difference, :imo: Time will tell.

Maybe they'll make one with changeable tones like the pistol probe. I know I can hear my pistol probe through my headphones when I switch the sound off at the phones toggle switch. Turn it down where the pistol probe has more bass and I can't hear it.

The Pistol has no proximity alert feature, audio volume BITES and it looks like a gun. It is also so cheaply built it ain't funny. I use my Pistol every hunt, in tandem with the Garretts, but it ain't worth the price they charge.

The White's TRX, if it keeps a good solid 3" in the ground, will be much better than the Pistol. I look forward to the real time reports after people get theirs. martin

My pistol probe has dropped onto concrete out of the holster more times than I care to count. Only detecting equipment that stays in my vehicle even in Fl. heat and humidity 365 days a year. Still works like a new one and it's 3 years old. Drop a propointer dozens of times on concrete or asphalt and see if it still works. Just the vibrating motor kills a propointer because of the poor inner design.

Pistol still bites in sound volume and has no proximinity feature. I've dropped my Pro Pointers many times, even on concrete, but I can only imagine what would happen by dropping the pistol like that. It's shell and controls cover is super cheap plastic. I've experienced the control's cover snapping out of position in general use. BTW, the last thing I worry about in the Garretts is the vibration, WHICH is a feature that the Pistol Probe does NOT have either.

I will add this too. I could easily step on my Garretts and feel safe. Can you really say you would be the same with your Pistol? Naw, the pistol is weak to my standards, for the price they ask for it.

I've stepped on my pistol probe several times. Just depends on what you like I reckon. I've owned 3 propointers, my pro find is broke. Pistol probe is still going strong after thousands of targets detected.

What about the sound volume? I like the Pistol's depth which is why I bought it in the first place, but no proximity alert like the garrets, and especially the faint audio volume, really is a drag. I would never hear the report if I didn't uncover at least one ear of the HPs, and even then, winds and mild traffic noises smother all sounds if the target is modestly deep at all.

How do you deal with this? martin

Different people hear different tones better than others. All I do is switch my pro gold headphones off and detect with the pistol probe with my headphones still on my head. No threshold from the detector coming through the phones. And I have hearing loss in my left ear. Targets I'm after are deep. Full blade depth with a Lesche isn't close to what I'm usually digging. propointer won't make a peep after my plugs are dug. Takes a pistol probe. Propointer will just keep me frustrated all day. Don't know if you know it. But they claim a propointer detects 3" to the side. None of mine did.

To be honest I do not want a lot of depth in a pin-pointer. I can pinpoint close enough with my detector and then zero in with my pro pointer.

My dealer told me today he would have them the middle of next week. Mine is ordered along with some other stuff and on the way when they arrive. I think the volume issue was fixed once they unwaterproofed it. I place electrical tape around the speaker hole on my Propointer and has made a lot of difference in the durability. Apparantly, I was getting dust and water in the speaker hole and causing problems. I still am very excited about the TRX even though I am happy with my ProPointer.

I just wear a hose clamp on my thumb to supertune the Pro Pointer with. I get the best of both worlds that way. Pull my thumb away from the PP and it goes back to normal range.

Even though I can pinpoint pretty well with the detector, it still seems more precise when you can get the pp to vibrate a little when right over the target.

Papa

I wonder if you can supertune the new whites like the garrett propointer?

The TRX manual says that the area of detection is sensitive around the tip only. The Garrett is sensitive for most of the length of the dirt probe.

I don't know if this will make a difference or not for supertuning the Whites.

Still costs too much for something less sophisticated than a tv remote. One day I may get a pinpointer but Im never gonna fall for the hype and spend so much. I do just fine without one so i can wait ;)

I like the Pistol probe looking like a gun, some of the areas I hunt, maybe the cruds will mind there business, you are correct, on the testing of the TRX, from the video, I do like the Garrett sounds better, the only issue I have with the Pistol probe, is it could have been made more hand friendly, we will see, the over price Pro Find was a bust, we will see if the TRX is worth the extra money, and see if it cuts the mustard in testing, Earl - Might pick up one local if the price is wright.
