Looks like you've got a good hunting buddy! My German Shepherd loathes car rides, but when we're detecting around the yard, she can be pretty good company. Although I sometimes think she might be a bit confused about why it's okay for me to dig holes when she's not allowed to.Another day with Ruff at the beach, he was ecstatic chasing gulls and herons around.
Ended up with just a stainless ring, it rang up in the high 30's on my 250 which is almost always junk, since there weren't many signals I dug it anyhow and ended up with a ring.
Also found what appeared to be a tentacle, quite an unusual find in Michigan - After cleaning and closer exam, appears to be a replica.
My dog could not be any better in a vehicle, he hops right in and I almost forget he is there in the back seat, I guess he has associated rides with going to fun places like camp - Might be in for a rude shock when he goes to the vets, I have a vet that nakes home visits but I took him in once when he had a leg injury and he was real goodLooks like you've got a good hunting buddy! The look on his face in those pictures! I don't think he was overly remorseful. It reminds me of the day my dog chewed her toy apart, and then was all smiles, apparently rather proud of herself. I think she had as much fun (or perhaps more fun) with the toy after it broke than when it was in tact.Lol Ruff really trashed himself this time, he went chasing a pair of [flying] cranes and went running full tilt towards a nasty mud pit - I yelled at him to stop but he paid no heed, he must have figured they were landing at the other side of the pit, and he wanted to be there when they did.
I was worried he might get mired so went running over there as close as I could, after he crossed it I tried to get him to go around the mud pit to get back to me but he bounded right back across it again , luckily made it out, if he got stuck not sure what I could have done about it without getting stuck myself. Was some nasty, smelly, clingy vile mud, I took him to another area which had some fresh water and tossed a kids shoe I found in as a fetch toy, he went for it 3 times and cleaned himself off.

Ruff is sure a pretty pup! LOL at tossing a found kids shoe into the fresh water....
Yeah I know what you mean, gladly just the opposite, young, dumb and full of lifeWhen I read your title "One last hurrah at the beach with Ruff" and seen the pic on my phone screen I thought he was old and soon to die. Ha, glad to realize I misunderstood! Good looking dog

At least you were able to get Ruff cleaned off before loading him into the vehicle....
Yeah, I know the feeling. My pup is around 6 months old. Her chewing on things is costing me a small fortune.Yeah I know what you mean, gladly just the opposite, young, dumb and full of life
It looks like you & Ruff had another fun hunt! Congrats on finding some older coinage... I especially like the silver Washington.Another one last hurrah and turned out very nice.
Ended up with 2 gold rings and 1 silver, been a while since I pulled a hat trick. I have been hammering this partially drained beach and obviously, there are areas which I had not hit yet. Most of the beach I struggle to get any signals at all but I started running into bottlecaps , vapes and change, I took this as a good sign as it showed people were losing stuff in that area and I haven't hit it yet. Sure enough, found them all in that one area.
Old coins was a different story, there is one area of the beach about as far as you can walk, after a volleyball net no one ever goes there. I have ignored this rea for years precisely because I never saw anyone go that far, and it is a bit tacky and unmaintained. One year some kid told me his mother lost a cell phone in that area and asked if I could find it, I didn't have the time then but next time I was at the beach I had a look back there. [Found the phone and returned it] But much to my surprise, I started finding all kinds of pre 1964 coins. Over the last few years I have hammered that area and found dozens of pre 1964 so its getting tough to find a signal there too, but today I concentrated on the outer edges of this area, I have avoided them because it borders on a picnic area and there is a fair amount of trash, but it paid off today with 4 silvers and a crusted wheat.
Not often can you find modern bling and old coins in 1 location.
Sp apparently, people back in the day went to that area alot ,, Surprisingly, have never found a ring back there. Saw an old pic from the 50's of this area and there used to be a row of changing booths there, I found where they were by the remains of old sign poles in the sand. I'm always meaning to take my Legend to that area for better depth but so far, never have.
Weird, half the beach was covered in snow, half of it wasn't, like you flipped a switch, guess due to wind patterns, plus it got warm enough to melt today in some areas.

So, do you typically use your Ace on the beach? My main unit is an Ace 250, but I don't often venture onto the beach with it. I'm curious to know your thoughts... does it generally do alright as a beach detector, based on your experience?
Have to have something to swing over. Most detectors would sound off. Best of everybody luck who can detect this time of year.Love the fat gold cigar band!
Maybe time for a upgrade in detector? I know I had a friend who loves his bounty hunter, he has found some cool stuff, even a 5 Dollar Norris Gregg Norris gold coin in a stream.............. he still uses that thing today in tot lots. After a few years of hunting together he did upgrade to the excalibur for the beaches
Haha, that's funny! A shepherd's wary curiosity as he investigates a "threat" can be so amusing. Nice photo!Another last hurrah lol, managed to find a crusty wheatie and a junk ring, imagine if that stone was legit !
Ruff is pictured examining my blowed out Ace, tried to leave it standing on the coil and that didn't last long.
I accidentally swung it into his fuzzy hock a few weeks back, now he views it as a potential enemy.
